Rhodri Morgan: Bear Grudges? Moi?

Quote of the Day from Rhodri Morgan on Tony Blair...

"It's very strange for me to be standing here today talking about a person who shafted me on one occasion, but on the other hand, compared to what has happened with Iraq, I think that's pretty small beer, to be honest with you. Life is far too short to be bearing grudges of that sort. I certainly have never borne grudges about that and I certainly don't bear grudges today."

No, course you don't...

Beware the peck of a one-legged duck. For the first time in his life, I thought "Well said Rhodri".

Rhodri Morgan. The tosser who refused to attend the D-Day Celebrations in Normandy and went on a Golf jolly instead. The Veterans really appreciated that.

Ever wonder why Labour support in Wales is declining?

I think you are being far too hard on Rhodri Morgan. Love him or loathe him he is honesty personified. He tells it like it is, which is why Blair did not want him anywhere near the levers of power. As he couldn't be 'spun' or be manipulated by the media managers.

He has one several 'foot in mouth' awards because he just says what he thinks without it going through seven levels of 'what will the PR team / No 10 / strategy unit / Treasury / policy wonks etc. make of this'.

So when he says he bears no grudges I, for one, believe him. If you are looking for bullshitters, afraid you have got the wrong man - try Alun Michael instead.

By all means give an honest bloke like Rhodri a kicking - but it will come back and bite you when yet more politicians think 'Well, why the fuck bother being straight then - might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb [especially if one is Welsh]' and lie and spin to their hearts content.

Think you're being a bit hard on Iain, the last two anons at 11pm-ish lst night.

Don't think he was having a go at Rhodri, think the point was that when you aren't "bearing grudges" you don't tend to mention what you're not bearing grudges about!

Personally, I've always quite liked Rhodri Morgan, even though I'm neither Welsh nor Labour, because he is totally himself, not a media creation or pretending to be something he isn't. At least with him you know what you're getting, like it or not. He undoubtedly was shafted by Blair, so why shouldn't he say so, instead of pretending how chummy they are? At least he's not a liar and a hypocrite like every other Labour politician.

Glad that's all clear then: no grudges, absolutely none whatsoever, none at all, niente, nul, keine, katholou, in any shape or form.

btw anon 11:37pm - good taste forbids bringing the words 'sheep', 'lamb' and 'Welsh' into any proximity within the same sentence.

Otherwise you could be charged with sheepism.
