The Reason for the News Blackout
What did Blair tell the Police about Levy that made the Police request a news blackout? They must have wanted Levy to be rearrested and reinterviewed without him knowing that Blair had been seen for a second time. Murkier and murkier...

Iain, that only works if you assume that Blair or a minion wouldn't instantly have got word out to My Lord Levy the second the interview finished
I am getting out the bubbly, this could be the start of the end,I hope so.This crowd of sociopaths has put the world in peril ,has destroyed any faith we ever had in politicians, honesty or justice.I hope this will see them gone forever out of our lives. Mike
Bit disappointed at the end of last week. Yates nearly always invites folk to drop in for a chat on Fridays, and last week it didn't happen - except it did.
As for the news blackout, what I really, really, really hope has happened is that despite police requests to keep stum, dear Toni tipped the wink to Mikey - and the boys in blue knew he would, watched him do it and can prove it.
Then they can both practice their tennis strokes in a secure location.
Yesterday police pull a raid in Birmingham ,the rape thing gets lost in the murk ,mr Adams arrives today ,police blackout lifted on Tone , good time to get out bad news ?
My guess is that Blair was told at the interview by the police what they had found, and he was asked if he wanted to add anything. What he had to say then confirmed to the police that they had to rearrest Levy. Cameron must have known this BEFORE PMQ's, hence his line of questioning. I have a hunch we could be in for a major development before the week is out.
You have to wonder when Bliar will eventually get the message don't you. Perhaps it's time for Cameron to go for the throat! Let's start a chant - Go Now!
Are the police trying to find the source of the leaks?
Radio 4 news say that "none of the rest of the Blair team were informed about the "chat" - including Tone's communications team".
Guess what? - a secret kept for 6 days. So does that prove that "the leaks" to Guido et all don't come from the Police?
In doing this (and Levy was arrested 2 days ago) the Police investigation is shown to be professional rather than leaky, "unprofessional", "theatrical", and darkly "political", and "leading the political system into disrepute".
Can the source for such finger pointing therefore be traced to No 10 playing a double-bluff by leaking?
Do you know, I gave up having a telly because I realised that all those programmes like 'The Sopranos', 'Eastenders', 'NYPD Blue' and 'CSI' simply couldn't compete with the level of sleaze, criminality and intrigue offered by what was going on in real life political shenanigans..
Good to see that James Landale is on the case - he is far better than Nick Robinson. Indeed JL did a good turn when Chuckie Kennedy was on the way out - a good omen perhaps..?
'I have no recollection of such a meeting, nor any recollection of any discussions about such a meeting...'
'Yes that is my handwriting. Those were personal notes for my own benefit only. I have no recollection of discussing them with anybody. As I recall the document was passed to me for information only, so the question of they're being intended as instructions does not arise...'
Was there somehow a conspiracy between New Labour and Blogger? Is that why all accounts on new blogger have gone down today? So we can't blog about Tony Blair? Glad to see old blogger is still working.
Iain, what's the mood in Westminster today? Are the Labour lemmings still wondering around clutching their timetables for the orderly handover from Blair to Brown in June/July? Are they beginning to realise yet that they need to do something, before the whole party gets flushed down the toilet with Blair & Co.
By statute you need the Attorney General's consent to bring as prosecution for the sale of peerages. But do you need his consent to prosecute for perverting the course of justice? I suspect not.

It's strange Mr Broon is never around when things happen ,wondering if he left his whitewash brush at home
Mike 11:56 AM, great post, agree absolutely with every word and I join you in your glorious hope!
Oh dear, the timing of the Police raids yesterday dovetails rather nicely with this coming out.
That explains Blair's performance with John Sopel on Sunday.
Scotland Yard have no intention to make a statement CONFIRMING that THEY requested the blackout.
Bye, Bye Tony.
Blair is trying to pin it on Levy but Levy will not be a willing scapegoat and points the finger back at Blair.
Brown meanwhile wants Blair's head on a platter and is stirring behind the scenes.
Powell and Turner have both sung in order to save their own skins.
Simple, Blair blamed Levy.
Now its Levy's turn.
The police are just trying to avoid the allegation of 'theatricality' by New Labour drones.
Cava in the fridge. Well done the SNP. Saor Alba!

What else in the news today ? , hmm could that have anything to with it

Hills have cut the odds about Blair being arrested from 12/1 to 7/1 and for him to be charged with an offence from 25/1 to 14/1.
I will restore faith in politics and politicians.
I will be purer than pure.
they can't put them in prison though - they're all full!
Nice one, Mr Plod.

Blair was not cautioned - but what he arrested?
You would want to arrest the Prime Minister before Levy.
Maybe the Prime Minister has been given time to fall on his sword?

Just a thought.

'So if that's everything, gentlemen.'
They must have wanted Levy to be rearrested and reinterviewed without him knowing that Blair had been seen for a second time.
Surely they could have managed this by arresting them both at the same time?

The funniest thing is that his legacy is going to be the break up of the UK. This is a superb irony for this smug venal hypocrite.

RTE are also saying that Jonathan Powell has been questioned.
Yes - I'd have though interviewing both at the same time is the obvious thing to do. Really find out who has problems with telling the truth.
man of steel, please clarify - are we saying that powell has been interviewed twice, or three times ?
Sorry, but I'm finding it hard to keep up...
Mr Powell is giving the police his full cooperation.

Mr Powell is the police - or at least the Watcher.

You're finding it hard to keep up? Don't apologise!
Imagine how hard it would be if you worked in Number 10?

Sorry to bring this up again , but are we sure that the PM was not questioned under caution?
Imagine the fallout if it was announced that he was!!
