The Sunday AM Blogging Feature

This is the nine minute feature on blogging which was shown on Andrew Marr's SUNDAY AM programme. There's a four minute film explaining blogging from News24's Technology Correspondent Spencer Kelly, followed by a lively five minute discussion between me and Yasmin Alibhai-Brown.

Glad to see that you agree with YA-B on one thing, that throwing of "verbal vomit" should be off limits.

Oh the irony of Yasmin railing against blots as ill-informed verbal vomit while perpetrating exactly that in her own rant.

The package was good and Marr does a fine job of moderating but the format of the debate didn't do viewers many favours. I have to say the well-worn, sensational, for-or-against model is a case study of the limitations of the traditional media in covering complex, nuanced issues.

Firstly she seems to be under the impression that blogs were set up to threaten the print media which I don't think they were. We discuss the news rather than break it.

Secondly the she should ask herself why pubs and bars are so popular... people like to talk.

"We discuss the news rather than break it."

Not sure Guido - or even Iain - would agree with you, Ben. (Although Guido probably doesn't break the news quite as often as he'd like others to think.)

I'm glad Iain's put this clip up. I tried watching it via the BBC web site and gave up due to constant re-buffering.

Patronising midget! No wonder she writes for the Independent.

YAB is just trying to ensure her feathered nest stays like that, feathered with lots of wonga.

Agree with Anonimo - YAB is trying to protect her turf and she is not doing a good job of it because her pieces are dull and so are her arguments. She's self-righteous, envious and inarticulate.

She apparently thinks only journalists should be allowed to express their thoughts to an audience. Silly woman - especially given that I have never managed to plough through an entire column written by her.

I like the hair colour, Iain! Very smart.

Also, I got the feeling from listening to her vacuous comments that she has never actually read a blog. Her silly reference to verbal vomit would apply to her own writing but certainly not to the top political bloggers in Britain (nor,in the main, their commentariats!).
