LibDems Accused of 'Dirty Tricks' In Moray By Election

Oh dear. The by-election in Moray is certainly becoming rather lively. After the Conservatives got into a bit of bother last week over sending out letters of endorsement from people who, er, said they hadn't agreed to it, the LibDem campaign has now hit the buffers in a row with the local paper. Today's Scotsman newspaper says today that the LibDem candidate Linda Gorn has been accused of "dirty tricks" and her campaign team were accused of behaving like "snake-oil salesmen" by the editor of the area's main weekly newspaper. All this over claims that a LibDem leaflet appeared claimed the paper was supporting Ms Gorn's candidature. The Scotsman reports: "One of the extracts states that the Liberal Democrats are "on their way up in Moray and fighting to win" but omits the crucial words "they claim" which were included in the original candidate profile by one of the newspapers' senior reporters, Fiona McPherson. The second extract states: "The party has a strong candidate in Mrs Gorn and if (the people of Moray) choose her as their MSP, they will have a really formidable MSP who will work hard." The extract is attributed to the Northern Scot but is, in fact, a statement made by Danny Alexander, the party's MP for Inverness, Badenoch and Strathspey, as part of the same report on Mrs Gorn. Pauline Taylor, the editor of the Northern Scot, told The Scotsman: "I have never known anything like it. It is just appalling that they are doing this." A spokesman for Ms Gorn's campaign team defended the party's actions. He said: "Our intention was never to mislead anyone."

No, no, perish the thought!

Come on Iain, compared to sending out letters in the name of someone who hasn't agreed to it, this is a rather minor indiscretion!

It's called lying in both cases.

Yes… there are degrees. For example, the Profumo scandal is not quite the same as Nick Soames pretending he listens to Dido CDs…though both are examples of lying.

Actually, I can easily believe that Fatty Soames listens to something as lifeless and dreadful as Dido.

Err actually the two local councillors DID agree and one of them attended our coffee morning last month where he won a prize and had his photo taken with Mary Scanlon. If he was so concerned how come he agreed to attend and have his picture taken by me? The other one DID agree but then got cold feet as he is another of these Tory pretending to be indpendents that we are cursed with up here. Funny how the SNP then dragged him off to the Northern Scot etc....no bias there since almost all the letters have been pro SNP and anti Tory/Lib and Labour...!

I keep having this image of a lady once saying that making love with dear Soames was like having a wardrobe fall on you with the key sticking out.....eiiiii !! my eyes! my eyes!
