The Strange Case of Cherie Blair's Nappies
Ellee Seymour has a great new blog, which I've linked to before and which I've added to my list of daily reads. Today she has a riveting story about Cherie Blair and nappies... Click HERE (and hold your nose!)
Pandering to my then wife's tree hugging tendencies we tried out recyclable nappies on junior Croydonian #1, and can confirm that said nappies are useless. They leak, and thus outer garments don't stay April Fresh for very long. So, just this once I sympathise with Morticia Blair. I promise it won't happen again.
I do hope Dave makes more noises about "natural" nappies because it will reveal him to be a fool/hippy/outoftouchrichboy in the eyes the majority of people who've had to dispose of soiled nappies.
As I understand it, the jury is still out on whether washable nappies are any better for the environment than disposables. You trade landfill usage for detergents and large amounts of hot water.
We used disposables, as I wasn't up for washing my own, and the nearest nappy service was about 60 miles away. They leaked quite often for the first 4 or so months, until the baby fattened up a bit in the nappy department.

You probably didn't really want to know that.
