"I am different from Tony who is prime minister. I'm a deputy leader really. I have the title of deputy prime minister at the kind of patronage of the prime minister," said John Prescott on the Today programme this morning. In a slightly more eloquent performance than usual, Prezza seemed to drop more than a hint that he might well want to continue as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, even if the new Prime Minister was minded to appoint a new DPM. I suspect this was a kite flying excercise, just to see what the reaction would be in the Labour Party. Up to now everyone had just assumed that he would go at the same time as Blair.
There are of course those of us who still cling to the view that he will still be forced from office at some point when a further bimbo eruption happens. Indeed, I had a very interesting email from someone over the weekend who seems to know quite a lot about Mr Prescott's frequent visits to a city not too far away from his birthplace. More on this later. Hopefully.

I guess you mean strange visits by Prezza to an "old friend" in the Doncaster area?
You mean Doncaster, don't you, you devil, you.
I think keeping Prescott on as DPM is a brilliant idea.
For the Tories.
with Gordo the Scowl as prime minister and the Cocktail Sausage as his deputy we can safely assume the Tories would be laughed into office. I understand CS is not the only hopeful with a zipper problem, so maybe after the illiterate sausage unearths the other pictures in his collection of colleagues having sex with various members of the animal and vegetable world, he can actually claim the top spot for himself. On the other hand, PermaTanHain may mud wrestle him to the floor in the interim. Gordo and The Tan Man. I feel a comic book is called for. Is anyone actually running the country by the way?
Dear Iaian
Watching this spot carefully and longing to know more about the total hypocrit!! great
I luv prezza; he is illustrates in every way the difficulties of those who aspire to office for aggrandisment on the pretence of being socialist; he is Napoleon the Pig.
Long may he continue in his blairite role of sending the estuary english into the arms of Cameron and so spiking Brown's premiership tilt.
The DPM was born in Prestatyn. Which is a long way from Doncaster.
But Liverpool or Manchester are much nearer... Or...Wales? Surely, it couldn't be? Really??

Much as I despise him, the Lad in me has to respect the old codger. He either has the libido of a thirteen year old - or else he has massively over-ordered the Viagra whilst trying to master that inter-web thing....
It's the City of Bangor, isn't it, fact-finding about slavery in Wales?
"he is Napoleon the Pig."
As entertaining as it is watching Prescott tottering about on two trotters, wearing the farmer's clothes and playing croquet, you've got a duty to spill as much as you know as SOON AS YOU KNOW IT.
The red-tops--I mean, the country demands it!
Gordon Brown
Finer Temptress
Through the ages he's heading West
From far away
Stays for a day
Never a frown
With Gordon Brown
Watch that resignation honours list. Prescott will be...
That Doncaster story is as old as the hills.
I hear Prezza being sent north to give the Scots some of his secretarial experience...
Labour turmoil as Scots back independence
MORE Scots now favour living in an independent nation than remaining part of the United Kingdom, according to a survey which appears to show devolution has fuelled the push for separatism north of the border. A YouGov poll commissioned by the Sunday Times reveals that 44% of Scots back independence, compared with 42% who support the status quo.
Oh dear, why does he feel he has to bear his Chest, the little 'terrier'
.
Despite the Doncaster council being absolutely convinced that it should be a city, so convinced that the spent plenty of our hard earned local taxes on a campaign for it to become one, it is not yet so.
Its still very much a town, and a very small minded one at that given we have only just got our first bookshop, and not a particularly impressive one at that.
So, Chester it must be.
Vlad, politicians don't run anything, let alone the country. I notice the phrase running the country has gained currency recently, as if the place would somehow grind to a halt if they took their eye off the ball. The idea behind the phrase gives far too much importance to politicians and tends to play into their hands in their desire to control and subjugate. The less they do, the better for all of us, and they should be encouraged towards masterly inactivity, rather than frenzied incompetence. Perhaps you might try to scotch this ridiculous phrase from your blog Iain.
He was born in a slum but I'm not sure in which city.
Chester's historic General Station is one of only twenty two Grade I and Grade II* listed railway stations in the whole of England and one of only three in the northwest region. The building is of outstanding national and regional significance and is one of the principle nineteenth century monuments in the city. It is an attractive public space which could be a key townscape feature of the City Regeneration Area.
Pity that Chester is emerging as the city of choice. I did so hope that Bangor was the location where the chipolata might have seen more action. Seemed appropriate somehow!
Conservatives should differentiate their express desire to see Prescott and Brown remain in office, because it will push voters our way - from their presumed horror at the effects another four years of Prescott would have on local government in Britain, and Brown on our economy.
Prescott can commit rape daily. He's untouchable.
So what are you saying, Russell, you think that Lord Giovanni wants to knock the station down? Surely that'd be Prescott junior?
I can assure you that John Prescott has not been idle - unfortunately.
Our DPM in fact grew up in Ellesmere Port and often admits he used to sneak through a fence at nearby Chester Zoo to avoid paying the entrance fee. (Chester Zoo had two jaguars in them days you know!) So he was a cheat as a child as well.
And talking about Chester, the poor city not just has a useless MP and a crappy council but the DPM often stays at the Mill Hotel. He also takes canal rides from the said hotel and I am told the skipper likes him to sit in the middle.
My worst life moment was sitting in teh jacuzzi at the Mill Hotel and saying to the guy next to me that he looked like Prezza and that must be a disability. He then told me that the DPM was indeed his brother.
Prescott promotes himself as an old fashioned class warrior, a man of the people! The latest issue of the magazine of the RMT union has a report that the wife of "A certain Hull MP" is in the habit of calling loudly for a porter to carry her bags when she arrives at Hull station. surely not the divine Pauline?
She'll be bloody lucky! I think the last porter at Hull Paragon retired when I was at school. (Not long after the days of steam ...)
I've seen the future and the future is Rosie.
