EXCLUSIVE: Blair Meets Philip Anschutz at Freud Party

Mail on Sunday journalist Glen Owen seems to have missed the big story in his piece (HERE) today on the Matthew Freud party, attended by Tony Blair at the apparent insistence of Miss Rebekah Wade (scroll two stories down).

I can exclusively reveal that not only was Tony Blair there, but so was Philip Anschutz, the man behind the Casino at the Dome and on whose ranch the Deputy Prime Minister famously stayed.

I think we'd all like to know if the Prime Minister and Mr Anschutz actually met and if so what they said. I suppose I could ring Downing Street and ask the question, but it's the final day of the Ryder Cup and I'm sure there are some lobby journalists out there who are stuck for something to write about that doesn't involve Gordon Brown. So go to it guys. And please do remember where you got the story from...

just read the mail ,
am I reading too much into the "cross fertilised" jibe concerning Blair and the soon to be infamous (I hope) Freud party,
Bearing in mind your previous hint?

Iain, you always tell people to 'remember where you got the story from'. Have you ever thought that the same source that gave you the story may have also given it to papers but with all the anal issues around lawyers and print deadlines, you report it before them? So in fact, the story is not yours but the person who emails it to you to tip you off at the same time as they send it to the papers. Anyone would think you actually roam around westminster investigating these stories yourself!

Er, no Verity. That's not what happened here. I know for a fact this isn't one of those stories that is doing the rounds. It was given to me and me alone.

It's such a big story you'd prefer to watch golf????

Given that golf is the most boring game on the planet I'm not expecting anyone beyond the spittle-flecked loons at the Mail, Express and Telegraph to even bother then.

Casinos are the number one priority for New Labour in office. What will be the number one priority for David Cameron? Anyone care to guess? My money is on fully implementing the WTO guidelines, eg, selling off doctors and nurses to Nigerian investors, flogging the road network to Russian mafiosi, etc. Any other guesses?

Ok, if it's 'your' story why don't you give us it properly and provide the entire guest list?

Anonymous 1.21 Er, yes. Done my bit. I'm not a journalist. I'd prefer to watch the Ryder Cup thank you very much.

Anonymous 1.30 possibly because I'm not remotely interested in it and I haven't got it. If you can;t see that Anschutz and Blair being there is a story I give up. Which paper do you work for?

Iain, great story - despite your detractors. Hope the press do look into this. If they did meet, then there is real public interest in that!

What was George Osborne doing there that's what I want to know? Labour sleaze doesn't surprise me one bit. But what was Osborne doing fraternising with the enemy?

I'd like to know if any Greenwich councillors were at this party.

Anschutz also met Ken Livingstone in July. His expertise on the abolition of slavery is in great demand amongst leading labour figures...
