I didn't hear Ming's speech today so I won't comment on second hand reports. But I do know that Ming has succeeded in upsetting just about every Liberal Democrat party organisation going. Each conference the leader takes a tour of the exhibition stands. Ming offered himself for just 45 minutes, meaning that he only had time to visit the commercial stalls and skipped over all the party stalls which are traditionally visited by the leader. It's not a very sensible move upsetting organisations which have a lot of power within the party, are run by ordinary members, and have the ability to submit motions to conference. Tsk Tsk.
PS Click HERE to read why Alex Foster couldn't face staying for Ming's speech. He speaks for many of us who attend Party Conferences. Once you have heard one leader's speech, you've heard them all.

Ming's closing words: "That is my vision. Your challenge, our future", was the sort of spin doctor's nonsence he would normally dismiss out of hand,
But he didn't. And we're left with this image of the old buffer delivering the deathless lines, like a horror movie corpse rising out of his coffin.
I think it's vital, from our point of view, that Ming continues, thereby reducing the tussle to a two party affair.

Fat chance of the same problem happening with the Conservatives then? Too busy beating about the tree/Bush?
Is the truth Iain that you just don't want to listen to the speech? I know I should - BBC player etc making it possible - but can I really be bothered ?
Still Ming's great for the Party - lets hope they keep him in place with chat show Charlie starting his return leadership campaign just before the next general election.
Traditionally, Liberal and Liberal Democrat leaders have visited every stall except the Liberator stall.
Good picture of Ming; makes him look like one of those retired OAPs who volunteer to help with the hospital car service (or whatever its called)
Odd, because Ming did visit all the party assoc stands at Harrogate in the spring. He even sprung on some of them when he visited that he'd be speaking at their fringes that evening, first they'd heard of it!

Yes, that's right. I think Paddy used to adopt a glazed expression and suddenly find some fluff on his jacket sleeve to remove as he was passing the Liberator stall!
