History repeats itself first as tragedy, and then...... this is definitely Phase 2.

I have to say Gordon Brown is the campest "straight" man I have ever seen that is after renowned ladies men such as Simon Cowell and Lionel blair

On a seperate note: did you have fun at Lib Dem conference Iain?

I saw you lurking around with a mic...

Though I said no to an interview!

Doesn't this "hit" have AC's fingerprints all over it-or is the betting on Mandy as a follow up to yesterday's speech?

invites questions - my question "Do you think that GB should be the next PM" has not be answered.

That's not a nice thing to say about Ferrets.

BBC : Labour say Bloomberg lied that Cherie said Gordon lied.

Bloomberg are standing by their story. Nice to hear there's one news organisation that can't be bought.

But after all this, the fighting continues. Where will it end? I've made a pretty funny picture of my own.

....Very sorry to disappoint, but nothing could be further from the truth:

Bloomberg have serious form: They may be the only channel ever to have breached OFCOM's due impartiality rule - and they did so just 6 days before the General Election last year.

I wonder if they are closer to the Blairs than is healthy for the nation?

The Ofcom ruling is below (in PDF format). In my view what they did (3 hours of uninterrupted nu labour speeches 6 days before the general Election) was a bloody disgrace and the sanctions imposed should have been much, much, harsher. UK broadcasting was set up NEVER to have allowed such a thing to have happened. Bloomberg have received little publicity for effectively trying to influence the election - probably because most Tories were out campaigning at the time.

(I wonder if Iain could make this a "proper" link?)

Nicking Guido's favourite simile? I don't know. You could at least have found a photo which was suggestive of ferrets fighting, rather than sneaking out of the sack after a surreptitious shag.

Cherie just can't keep that letterbox shut. Someone should stuff an oversized jiffy bag in it.

Considering that half the population considers Cherie Blair a cross between Cruella De Ville and Lady Macbeth, being called a liar by her is perhaps something of a compliment in many people's eyes.

That Blairites and there "us too" Blair-Lite shadows in the Tory party want to try and besmirch Brown on a personal level speaks volumes. It's because every political poll taken shows that in terms of his competence at his job staggeringly high numbers of people believe he's been effective.

Bob Geldof last night said on the Panorama documentary that Brown's contribution to overcoming global poverty had been "immense" and "tangible". Time and time again Tory commentators have been predicting economic meltdown, just like in the bad old days when they played poker with peoples livelihoods. Time and time again they've been proven wrong.

I look forward to hearing what Cameron learnt from his parents, his background, his education about the lives and aspirations of ordinary people. Maybe it's from his father that learnt how to gamble peoples jobs and homes on international markets ?

No mention of the content, just playing the personal. It's the means by which Cameron and his gilded, privileged, alien to everyday experience front bench team hope to defraud their way to government. Everyday their out of office is a day they feel robbed of their birthright.

What annoys the Blair Ultras and the Tory Blair-lites most about Brown is that his content driven approach politics shines a light on the vacuity of their own approach.

Yes, that would be the contents of our collective wallets I believe. Even if the one eyed monster makes it into No.10, and personally I hope he does.

What are you and the rest of the blind Gordon is leading a merry dance going to do when his financial house of cards comes crashing down I wonder?

Martyn - 9:41 pm
Surely you could have made your point without having to quote a political heavyweight like Bob Geldof.

Peter Hitches - 10:44 pm
Now I remember why I left the UK in 1996

Anyone else notice how Downing Street seem to be (slyly) distancing themselves from their own version of events at the NuLab bunfight?

Their statement that Cherie had actually enquired: 'Can I get by?' rather than opined: 'Well that's a lie?' seems to be fading in the collective consciousness as it is starved the oxygen of publicity.

And another thing...didn't Cherie's own denial,'I didn't say it and I don't believe it', (particularly the latter part) have an air of contrivance about it?

I think we've detected an individual supporter of Gordon Brown in Martyn. That's a rare bird in these parts!

What's all Gord's talk of political parties becoming 'obsolete'? He's asking the Labour Party turkeys to vote for Christmas? That's an unusual sales pitch.

More Tories seem to be supporting Gordon Brown than Labour folk, which is a bit odd. I'm afraid he's a high risk strategy, Martyn, and you can do better.

Those folk in the poor countries ask for an end to the CAP in preference to big fat foreigners with cheque books trying to outdo Mother Theresa.

I was wrong about Bloomberg. Not surprised really. I tried to put a positive spin on a non-blog medium just for friendly's sake, but I now retract. Blogs are best.

I watched the Bloomberg producer convincingly defend her story and I watched Cherie deny it. It was pretty obvious from the body language who was telling porkies

Was it really his wife, or was it T. Blair using her as a lightening rod? I argue the latter, but yet again the press seems to fall for this old trick. I note that Anne Perkins in The Guardian asks "How could you, Cherie?" as if nothing pre-planned had happened.

Martyn, so you like Brown then?

I wonder if Gordon Brown's father would have anything to say about Gordon 'coveting thy neighbours house, office and jaguar'! I am sure that Gordon has learnt enough from his dad to make a good eye-dampening speech, but not enough to actually make him loyal - there are plenty of good christian virtues this 'son of the manse' never learnt!

He uses his family and his history to 'paint a picture' about himslef in order to engratiate him to the Labour party. But he is a shark - and anyone who has had the misfortune to work with him will tell you. He is power mad and hungry for status. He is insecure, delusional, and just about the last person you want with a 'finger on the nuclear button'.

And just because DC is rich doesn't mean that his parents cannot have taught him something of moral value.

Why do the left always assume they have the monopoly on virtue, inherited wisdom and goodness. These are universal traits, not something only the left can have!
