In An Effort To Make a Headline...

The London Evening Standard tonight has a front page story with the headline...

COME BACK BORIS & TAKE CHARGE: MAYOR ATTACKED OVER TRIP TO BACK OUR WORLD CUP BID IN ZURICH

Except the story underneath bears little relation to the headline. There isn't anyone quoted in the story attacking Boris for going to Zurich either on or off the record. The worst they could get is Ken Livingstone giving a tepid quote saying that the "Mayor has been completely silent". Er, that was why he was on my programme last night talking about it. You really do have to despair sometimes.

Oh, I despair all the time. Check out the little clutch of media-watching blogs (TabloidWatch, Angry Mob, Minority Thought and few others) for almost daily examples of newspapers claiming a certain event has trigged "fury" or "outrage" without any sign of any actual people being furious or outraged.

I think Mr Dale, you'll find nobody listens to your tin pot radio show. I only follow your blog because work makes me. I am yet to read anything interesting on it except your unnecessary poisonous remarks about almost everything. Cheer up you moody b@stard

Sten, what a sad individual you sound. Actually, several hundred thousand people listen, as Rajar figures will confirm. But never let the facts get in the way of a nice little insult eh?

In other news, King Canute called to do something about the rising tide.

@ Sten, if work 'makes' you follow this blog and you feel that way about it, have you considered looking for another position?
