A Story Which Will Gladden Every Conservative's Heart

Harriet Harman will, according to the Daily Telegraph, be fronting Labour's general election campaign.

Good.

The more she is on TV the better. It'll be like plucking votes off trees. It's quite a 'brave' decision, using Yes Minister-speak.

Robert Winnett thinks this is more evidence of the gradual sidelining of Peter Mandelson. Someone - yes, I'm talking to you, Ed Balls - is playing a very dangerous game. A wounded Mandelson is a very dangerous animal indeed.

If this is true, will Labour’s policies be dreamt up on the playing fields of St Paul’s?

You seem to have forgotten the sycophantic and supine media. The BBC will give these obnoxious people the most air time, the most sycophnatic easiest interviews (no doubt being bullied by Alastair Campbell) that the Labour government could ever wish for.
They will fight the dirtiest campaign ever and unfortunately there are still plenty of fools out there who will fall for it.

Mandleson aside, Harman's election role is a frank admission that the party knows the game is up as far as the election is concerned. This is really about the future direction of new Labour.

Class-war beckons, eh? Excellent. The loathed Balls doing his master's bidding in instructing Haridan Harman, and in the process maginalising Mandelson, augurs well as a new year begins and a demoralised government readies the suicide pills. New Labour died years ago; Old Labour is intent on emulating its demise...Happy New Year!

Excellent news with which to start the year Iain! The daily sight of this wealthy, patronising, nanny state driving, woman is not going to convince anyone that they should vote for five more years of Brown. If Labour do start to push the `Tory Toffs' angle it could really bite them in the arse when the private educations of Harman and other `socialists' start to be thrown at them.

It should be hugely amusing when she does a joint appearence with Mandy at a briefing session. Will the reptiles stick to questions about their speeches? I don't think so!

I really can't wait!

I think Sir Humph said "courageous", a word which always terrified Jim Hacker.

Are we returning to the 'ferrets in a sack' Labour party of 2 years ago? If so my money is on Mandelson not Balls but in reality I hope they tear themselves apart - that would be the only just reward for the damage they have inflicted on this country over the last 12 years

"Ms Harman is being lined up to host the daily televised media briefings – a role which will make her one of the main “faces” of the campaign."

Rotfl...ZaNuLab are guaranteed to be toast with Harman as the public face of their election campaign. She will make Kinnochio look like a genius. Bring it on Harman.

I did laugh about this!

What a gift to the Opposition. Harridan Harman is guaranteed to alienate the male vote, and a large part of the female vote that simply doesn't want to be associated with her man-hating agenda.

Perhaps Cameron could find some suitable role for Peter's undoubted talents

Time to offer Mr Mandelson some sort of big tent blue future, then he might start to sing.

Harman is politically dead just for that story in the Mail yesterday about Labour removing fire cover from middle class areas ( which paid for it ), under the evil equality act.

Couldn't agree more. Mandy makes a very dangerous foe. Plus he has little to lose in this.
It will be fun sitting back & watching the bun fight. :-)

Well, Mandelson's third resignation is certainly a delicious prospect. I don't see it happening, but it would be a classic dying government moment.

Don't be so naive Iain.

Harman has been chosen to front the dirty, filthy and horrible campaign to come, with Mandelson and Campbell orchestrating in the background. They have their new found squeaky images to protect and they wouldn't want to remind the voters of what scumbags they really are by being front and centre would they?

Labour intent to fight dirty against a naive and supine Tory party, and Harman will take the flak.

@Sean Haffey:

Sir Humphrey: If you want to be really sure that the Minister doesn't accept it, you must say the decision is "courageous".
Bernard: And that's worse than "controversial"?
Sir Humphrey: Oh, yes! "Controversial" only means "this will lose you votes"; "courageous" means "this will lose you the election".

Am I right in thinking she's still facing prosecution for crashing her car while using a mobile?

In addition, her version of events is flatly contradicted by independent witnesses. If she's found guilty, that shows the court thinks she's lying.

All in all, an ideal candidate to front a Labour election campaign.

Isn't Harriet Harman's court appearence for a motoring incident and driving off without leaving her name, address and insurance details due in the new year ?

Possibly not the sort of media attention that Harriet "you know where to find me" Harman would want whilst fronting Labour's election campaign.
