The former Tory MP for Gravesham, Tim Brinton, has died at the age of 79. The former ITN news journalist and newscaster was elected in 1979 and stood down in 1987, when he was succeeded by Jacques Arnold. Prior to that he had served on Kent County Council.

His daughter - Sal Brinton - is the Lib Dem PPC for Watford.

She cut the Labour majority to 1,148 votes in 2005.

Tim Brinton is part of my nostalgic mindscape, like Shirley Abicair and Alma Cogan.

For years after he retired from ITN, he got parts in films that needed a newscaster for the storyline, including "Carry on Emmanuelle" and "Doxon of Dick Green" Just check his IMDB entry.

A very English dude.
