Not good. Not good at all.

There's a CNN special on Saturday night called "Fit to Govern?" focussing on McCain and the annointed one.
O come on. This is a no-brainer. Either McCain wins, or the world has four years of a superficial and inept creation of the media who stands for nothing in particular but looks good and sounds good.
How can true Conservatives be duped by the Obama facade?
Your Grace, I'm not an Obama aficionado, but I'm terrified by the prospect of a tired, rambling and not especially gifted old boy of 72 being elected, with that twit of a woman as 2IC.
ps. I'm not that much younger than McCain myself, so I'm not surprised he's looking weary!
What ever you think about Obama he does look and act the part. If a Black president needed to be cast for the West Wing that's who they would pick.
Cranmer, does it matter? Look where George got the free world. He's destroyed America.the ultimate oil baron has broken the land of plenty. He's managed to pull off the complete 1970's set of inflation , recession, oil price rises and war. Do you think that's what his plan was when he became President? Could Obama really do a worse job? Could the boy Dave really bugger up the UK any more than Blair/Brown?
McCain doing his "my friends, let me just say" And his "Regan, who was a hero of mine" followed by "Babe Ruth who was a hero of mine.." or possibly "O.J . Simson who was a hero of mine" is looking very old and very tired.
Obamas a facade.. probably, but really..Who cares?
Its the Boris thing. People were sick of Ken. Really ,really sick of nannying, hectoring, preaching, taxing, politicising cronyism, wasting, inefficient, overspending, diversity first Ken..
That is why he's gone. That is why Gordon is going too. And by the latest polls, Obama is coming.
Anon 10:05, you are right. Presume they can't bear the thought of boring Osborne droning on with his endless annoying obvious little platitudes, and the Tory spin doctors don't have anyone else they can send who is fully in possession of his or her marbles. So it's out with the new and in with the old!
Shame really as Ken Clarke actually made a lot of sense last night on Newsnight and one is reminded yet again of how well the Tories would do now with him as Chancellor.
Didnt fix the roof will the sun was shining Didnt fix the roof will the sun was shining Didnt fix the roof will the sun was shining Didnt fix the roof will the sun was shining...malfuction !!!!!
Bizarre, but even more fascinating is that although there are hundreds of hits if you Google "my fellow prisoners" there is next to no comment that I can find from the American MSM. It's as if there's a collective cringe of embarrassment and denial from institutional America. I am no apologist for British papers but the American approach seems appallingly subservient to the so-called Washington elite.
"Look where George got the free world. He's destroyed America."
Funny that -- 'cos it was the Democrat Clinton who forced -- forced by legislation - banks, banks backed by state supported Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to lend money to bad risks. All these bad risks were bundled up and sold off.
Going back to 1999 it was the NY Times who pointed out that this might be OK in good times but will sow the seeds of disaster when the financial good times dipped.
Of course Dolly does not want us all to be remained of that -- and of course good old Dolly does not want you to remember that the regulation of the British banks who finally ended up with all these bundles was the responsibility of the British FSA - created and monitored by one G.Brown Esq.

At least he stands for something. He stands for quite a bit, actually. Obama stands for nothing. Deep down, very deep down, possibly, he has a principle. Maybe even two. But he is a puppet. I doubt he has very much idea of the implications of anything he says.

If Dubya is so on the ball why didnt he do anything about it. Has he been president for 10 years or is slick willy still putting out cigars the fun way in the oval office? No , bad news, it was Bush in the chair the whole time.
Blaming Clinton is like blaming thatcher for he current mess. Brown tries to, but he can't. Because he, like Mr Bush, have been in the government and if they wanted to, they could have done something about it.
Trevorsden - do you live in a world where Raegan/Thatcher never happened? Clinton/Blair were just continuing their deregulation policies. I agree with you as to causes but it's not being accurate to pin it all on Clinton.
The simple fact is that we have been living in la-la land for the last 20 years - the fantasy in the US and UK particularly being that we could all have as much credit as we liked irrespective of prodictivity, manufacturing base, etc. The huge City growth simply reflected that fantasy. Credit derivatives trading has been the most extreme case of it. The latter became so huge it is now about to render all financial instutions everywhere completely insolvent. Maybe in the future we will have learned a lesson here and stopped trying to just make money from money and return to actually making things.
It will soon be time to return to gardening one's own vegetable plot and keeping a few sheep, just as people did after the collapse of the Roman Empire trading system.
Take a look at Obama's website to find out what he stands for. it's pretty clear, he stands for a lot, he has detailed policies and a workable vision - indeed it appears an increasing amount of americans agree with him.
it annoys me when people say "X doesn't stand for anything", when one cursory look at a manifesto will prove you wrong

Guess what it's going to say about John Mac...
Sensible 'Catholic Kidz'.

It's the Freudian slips one should watch out for. "My Fellow Prisoners". Perhaps he knows something we don't.
Thats your Dave mate..that is.
How can you be a Vietnam Hero - if you lost the bloody war
Some say the Iraq war is unjust or illegal, that is debatble, but Vietnam was the USA's ideological folly
crammer said "How can true Conservatives be duped by the Obama facade"
Because they have experience of the David Cameron facade?
The irony is hilarious.
He just made a Bushism
PS will McCain be at the next tory conference, or will you invite that other buffoon Palin.
When either of them come to your 2009 conference he or she can greet the audiance as
"My fellow Neo Cons"

Do the Tories actually have a front bench
BBC Question time last week- Hezza
Newsnight Monday - Lamont
Newsnight Tuesday - Ken Clarke
Newsnight Wednesday - Lawson
Tonight QT - Fag end Clakie again
The Tory party - the silent ones

Dolly @ 10.17
go away please.. you are fooling only yourself
T0 10:17. This is a deliberate Davism.
You see the old guard give a certain gravitas, unlike Vague, Gove and IDS.
Also an endless stream of balding or floppy haired Eton upper class millionaire making fools of themselves wont look good
10:17
Gideon Osborne droning on ..
Surely NOT
Didnt fix the roof will the sun was shining Didnt fix the roof will the sun was shining Didnt fix the roof will the sun was shining Didnt fix the roof will the sun was shining...malfuction !!!!!
What bothers me is not the mis-speaking so much as seeing him standing there alongside Palin.
I like McCain. I like Palin. But those two do not fit together at all.
Biden's completely hopeless. Obama's the only one of the four of them who looks like he's on the ball, all of the time.
Surely the men in white coats cant be far away....hope they take Palin while their at it as well..

Shurely he meant to say "My fellow pensioners"?
McCain is yesterdays man - let's hope he can maintain some dignity by stopping his campaign from spreading more fear and more hate.
When McCain loses the world wins.
It's Obama all the way.

This is good.
McCain is so out of touch.
