Dear oh dear what tosh. Reminds me of Argentina 1978.....He did make the point that the clans joined together. It was probably the only time in history as the internecine warfare inherent in the clan system almost certainly means we will never agreee on anything....

Times like this those us of who did Scottish History despair. He referred to Hadrian's wall as a barrier- actually it was a way of controlling trade i.e. to levy Customs' duties. NO EU then! Associated with this if Hadrian's wall was so effective, how come the northern boundary of Falkirk High School is another Roman Wall (Antonine's!!) Finally Kilts and Bagpipes in 117AD. Hardly.

Great advert though

Apparantly the England Manager tried to get the FA to produce a similar video, with the Dam Busters March as the back tune. Showing our players as the bouncing bombs hitting the Dams.

Sadly every time they tried the players missed the targets!

I couldn't care less what Scotland get up to as long as its not with English money .

As for their absurd attempts to rewrite history and the insistence they invented everything-it Soviet in its mentality and pathetic .

They should try growing up .

I do care that
The Barnett Rules are abolished .

England has her own parliament with at least the same rights and competencies as the Scottsih parliament .

There is an English executive
An English PM
An English civil service
English fiscal independence
etc

oh yes

That the British national debt be split up pro rata with the Barnett Rules
ie 11.75% to Scotland .

Blimey! At first the Scottish accented progress toward the map of Scotland had me thinking it was some kind of send-up. As it became clearer and clearer that it was in fact a serious attempt at inspirational promotion, so my laughter got louder and louder.

What a ridiculous pretentious load of old cobblers. Almost on a par with another ludicrous Scot's attempts at promoting 'Britishness'

Had England produced such a video, no doubt we would all be called Racists, or Nationalist trying to split the Union.

Time for England to stand up again, proud and without shame.

Time for an English Parliament.

Loved the ad, filled me with merriment. Should be taken with a pinch of salt. If the Scots believe it more fool them. If the English don't like it, tough, get a sense of humour.

Well done Ian, worthy of Guido!

Tongue in cheek and self-deprecating stuff. Clue is in the parody of Declaration of Arbroath 1320,..So long as 100 of us remain sober.."
However it's nice to be in a position of only having to beat the World Champions to qualify for the European Championships! As opposed to hoping Israel beat Russia etc.

great

Thanks Iain.

So what if the bagpipes then aren't right. Frank Miller put an armoured rhinocerous in 300 not because that is how history was but how inspirational stories are.

The English have much to stand proud about (perhaps as much as the Scots though obviously not on a per capita basis) but I am afraid we cannot tell you how to do it.

complete and utter nonsense of course: 'Predomita Britannia et statim missa' The 'Scots' had been well stuffed at Mons Graupius. The real reason was that one of the four british legions had to be withdrawn to handle trouble in the Balkans. Inchtuthil - the legionary fortress in Perthshire - was abandoned casuing the giving up of Scotland back to to the Tyne-Salway line. This was considerably before 117 AD ...Later - about 40 yrs - Hadrian built the wall ....

there .. history lesson over :-)

It would be funny if it were not so sad. How the history of Scotland and what the Scottish people are constantly lied into believing.

Have virtually no relationship whatsoever.

That complete butt hole of disinformation Mel Gibson should have been hung drawn and chopped up into little bits, before birth.

It would have done every historian seeking the truth a great service.

Almost as inaccurate as that frightful dirge "Flower of Scotland". Why must self-delusion be the chief national characteristic of the spoiled, ungrateful Caledonian tax-spenders? Scottish Raj indeed.

I thought it was funny - all that pretentious nonsense and rubbish history about what? FOOTBALL!!

Doesn't that sum up little boys everywhere............

I repeat--it is tongue in cheek and self-deprecating regarding our history/myths.
All those po-faced English people who took it seriously should get a life (unfortunately a sense of humour cannot be acquired).

Some heroically sad people on here.

It's just a (slightly) funny video.

Agreed Anon. When it comes to having a sense of humour "you canny beat the Tartan army".

"slightly funny" like the English students, old people and sick people who see their hard earned taxes going North, do you mean? Or some other "slightly funny", my old comfortably endowed chum?

Excellent! We Scots know how to have fun! Poor English! Every time their national team have a game, we have to hear about 1963 again and again and again. But do we complain? No! We have a laugh! Not only do the English not have a sense of humour, but they need the Scots to make the important decisions in Parliament for them.
All hail Gordon Brown, Alistair Darling,Des Brown et al.

1966, my charmingly daft Hibernian Chum! Much enjoyed this, but time to go, now. Tax to generate tomorrow. You too? Tell me: is it true that the Gaelic - English dictionary has no meaningful translation for "pride" or "standing on your own feet" but 107 ways of saying "work-shy". Tee Hee!

Been to Edinburgh lately? The 2nd wealthiest city in the UK with it's booming financial sector. Sailed round the Orkneys where black gold is pulled from the sea? Walked the streets of the second largest retail center in the UK and soon to be Commonwealth Games host Glasgow?

Who's kidding who?

The SE gets one massive subsidy through the location of 90% of civil servants and the apparatus of government. Also the pull affect capital status has on business location.

Just because you read 'Scotland' and 'subsidy' in the metro this morning does make it true.

The Romans didnt want North Britain, it was, and is nothing but a barren wasteland, Hadrians wall was to keep them OUT!.

Hadrian had the right idea, lets get a huge secure border up for when Scotland is a 'Proud and independent' puppet of the EU.

"You may take our lives - but we'll never vote.....INDEPENDENCEEEEEEE!"

Pathetic.

Anonymous said...

Utter nonsence. I watched it hoping it was a joke which would end with the bravest Scotsman of all picking his nose and biting his nails. Oh dear.

Incidentally the gentlemen who fought (and lost) against Agricola at Mons Graupius (properly Mons Craupius) were PICTS. "Scotland" at that time was located in Ireland as that's where the Scottii lived.

If Scottish nationalists have to fake history so massively to screw up their nerves for a FOOTBALL match they might as well put in a piece showing the skirt-wearing little dears building Stonehenge.

What about the subsidy that us normal people pay to homosexuals? When you consider the costs of Aids medicine, local councils promoting poofery, gay pride parades, etc, gays get a far larger share of the public purse than any other group. Also homosexual MP's can vote to lower the age of consent and gain access to children for sexual purposes. Can we not have a straight parliament, or straight votes for straight laws? What about independence for gays? We need to stop the homosexual subsidy.

The Jocks in 1000bc or whenever may have turned back the Romans. Methinks it was more them being dirty and smelly and mingin' that had the Romans running for cover mair than their fighting spirit (which only surfaces when the local pub opens)! Heavens- loo paper has just been recently taken up here! And all those e-coli cases! What a surprise.

please have a look at this lovely speech by the conservative party leader.

_____________________

This is not about Scottish Nationalists... You’d be pleased to know that some of us Scots don’t fully trust them wanting to freeze council tax with no instant answers to how this gap will be filled

This is just a fairly crap advert trying to market a football match, not Braveheart. You'd be happy to know I prefer Highlander myself... which (just like this little advert does) fiddles with history little.

I fear that time and time again in the last few weeks there has been anti-Scottish blogs flying across the Internet... I’m proud to be Scottish but I am at heart British

You know most of us Scots are actually British and find ourselves quite happy to settle on "English territory” and “Welsh territory”.

For those of you who think the Barnett formula is a waste of time I personally ask that you consider visiting Inverclyde, Scotland to see how bad things are economically…

We are not spongers and if we are we are not happy spongers. Thatcher has a lot to blame for "our cost" to Britain and my constituency has never really recovered due to its near single industry employment.

I am British though and I can’t help but feel a Nationalist on the Internet has a great deal of ammunition with regards to attacks on the Barnett formula… which I feel is a necessity if my constituency is going to succeed and revive itself.

The real question should be the West Lothian Question… the Barnett formula is irrelevant to the west Lothian question.

I wish you English folk a bit of luck (which you need) in qualifying, Id hate to see no British teams in the competition… if anybody really think we will beat the World Champions and “send them home to think again”, I think your optimistic and having a laugh. However, we shall support them.

Please do not mistake National pride for Nationalism.

P.S Sorry for going on a bit

Pass the puke bucket. A Jock apologist mentions 'Thatcher' for all the problems in Scotland. What a load of s*it. The Scots are responsible for the mess in Scotland thank you very much. Since leaving school, i've NEVER been out of work- and i live in Scotland: in a 'tinky' remote rural area. All this 'social deprevation' bollocks is just an excuse for lazy f'kers to sponge off the tax payer. Christ- Thatcher was responsible for saving us from a ailing Britain- under a LABOUR government. Pity she did not go far enough in getting the spongers up here- and elsewhere- off their fat arses, and into work.

Nice one, iain, thanks fur stickin that one up there.

We are goin tae get in an aboot them.

Joe said...

I believe Thatcher has a lot to blame... but is not the one and only problem.

Another big ass problem is blooming drug addicts!

I don’t blame Thatcher for ALL of "our" problems... I'd like to add that I blame the labour government for not putting enough resources into customs.

There are some "lazy fuckers" but look at the massive drop in levels of employment during Thatcherism in Inverclyde... surely these shipbuilders were not all "lazy fuckers"

If all the people that lost their job in shipbuilding, mining etc across Scotland and North England were "lazy fuckers" then maybe Thatcher wouldn't have such a problem with unions.

I can't believe Im talking about Unions.

We are not all "lazy fuckers", just like English people are not all "Lazy fuckers".

I accept that your opinions exist but I fear that they are aiding the Nationalist cause.

I personally am Scottish/British... I do not sponge off of the state (I sponge off my parents)

I accept your opinion, but I personally think we should be dealing with the west Lothian question issue as the priority.

West Lothian Question first.

What everyone seems to have missed is that there was no Scotland when the Romans occupied Br*tain.

As for Scots not complaining about being reminded of England's 1966 World Cup triumph: At times they seem incapable of doing much else, as anyone who worked in Scotland during the 2002 World Cup can confirm. 'Ye never let us forget it', I was frequently told.
