"I feel he is one the very few politicians of this administration who's touched by the mantle of greatness... I think he is a genuinely good man...of enormous will-power and courage." Paul Dacre, editor of the
Daily Mail on....wait for it....Gordon Brown. Admittedly he said it four years ago in an article in the excellent
British Journalism Review, but if you have the editor of Britain's leading Tory leaning newspaper saying such a thing, you do wonder if we're entering a parallel universe, don't you? From reading the
Mail lately it doesn't appear as though Dacre has changed his view as he is leading the calls for Blair to go, and go quickly. Looks like Mr Cameron has some work to do. Dacre and the
Mail were faily vicious to him in the early days of the leadership contest and only came round to him very late in the day. Ben Brogan, the
Mail's Political Editor was certainly pushing Cameron's case but Dacre was not a fan. Only when it was clear that Cameron had an unassailable lead did the
Mail formally endorse him. Looks like a good bit of wooing will need to be done - and done quickly.

There is nobody to do the wooing. The Tories don't have a Press Chief at the moment and two people have turned the job down!
Dacre needs shooting not wooing.
His values are repellant.
