What does it say about the Speaker's position when the only person touring the TV studios defending him is the oleaginous George Foulkes?

I quite enjoyed watching George Foulkes putting the BBC bimbo on £92k a year in her place.

Foulkes? An arrogant arsewipe of the unpleasantest brand. No-one would have much difficulty in discerning a marked difference between him and a sunny day.

He and Martin are made for each other.

You're been wanting to use that word for ages haven't you?

Paul Burgin said...

A lot. His behaviour yesterday sealed his fate as far as I am concerned. I honestly feel like putting my head in my hands with some individuals within the main parties. They just don't get it. They are more wrapped up in proceedure than whether something is right or wrong.

Well Speaker Martin has been in post for eight and a half years which is pretty good by post war standards. I think it is time to go and he has done his cause no good over the expenses miasma. He should stand down towards the end of the session.

Saw his interview with the BBC reporter concerning her wages, again it reminds me of how certain people have no grasp of reality.
What did he hope to achieve by going on the attack and saying that the media were damaging politics.
The Speaker yesterday with his bizarre outburst and George Foulkes today both it seems are much more in favour of shooting the messenger than opening there eyes and dealing with the real problem.

It leaves the Speaker in a similar postion to Nick Clegg.

Nick Clegg has apoligised about MP's expenses but collectively the Liberal Democrats fail to see that they have even done anything wrong in relation to the Michael Brown Donation, which amounted to over £2Million!

It is not good enough for Clegg to say Sorry, when it suits him politically and not to say Sorry to the people swindled by Michael Brown and then seeing their money donated to a political party they may not even support. In some ways it is as bad as having your vote stolen. In otherways it is of course worse!

Liberal Democrats cannot just say they took the money in good faith - the people who invested with Michael Brown invested in Good Faith. Nick Clegg has to give back the victims the money that was stolen from them and given to the Liberal Democrats. Anything else will show the Liberal Democcrats to be two faced on MP expenses, dodgy donations and just about every other issue!

Oleaginous? It's not what I'd call him.

Don't forget that Gordon Brown supports him too!

It says he is probably toast.

Let's hope Sir Alan Haselhurst is toast too!

"Sir Alan Haselhurst, the Commons Deputy Speaker since 1997, has claimed £142,119 on his country home over the last seven years, despite having no mortgage.
The Saffron Walden MP charged the taxpayer almost £12,000 in five years for gardening bills at the Essex farmhouse."

Time for change!

I think Foulkes could do with a good look at Erskine May before insisting that Sky newsreaders read it.

What an absolute muppet.

You can see Quentin Letts on Speaker Michael Martin including the full scene from yesterdays Commons session,. The qquality should be much better than the previous one: Quentin Letts on Michael Martin

Lay off George Foulkes - or "The Red Baron" as he is affectionately known in Jockoland

He is the independence movement's most effectve weapon - a weapon of mass destruction indeed.

And once Gordy and Mick are gone, as surely they both will by by the end of June, we will need the Baron more than ever. Indeed give him a pay rise to at least match the "BBC bimbo's" .....oops he already has, and that's not counting the expensess, the Lords daty allowances and the company directorships.

In future he shoul;d insist on being interviewed by Jeremy Paxman - about the only BBC emplyoee whoi could match the Baron's real annual income, or intellect.

Or Jonathon Ross - who could also call hime a wanker and get away with it - on the grounds of accuracy

The Times and the Mail are reporting that a delegation of minsters have gone to Downing St to tell Brown Speaker must go.

Foulkes was reacting to the very unprofessional twerp who interviewed him. In a normal world, she would be reprimanded.

Great word oleaginous

And making such a ham-fisted job of it.

A recommendation from Lord Foulkes of the public purse is not one a normal person would seek.

And Speaker Masritn has the full backing and support of Gordon... Brown...
Tears they are a fallin’ updateOh, my God! Perhaps we should feel sorry for Speaker Martin? (No...)

He's a nasty piece of work of that there is no doubt.

But he has gone well up in my estimation for exposing that grossly overpaid BBC news reader.
£92 k a year for doing what, sitting on her arse? I'll do it for £5k and all the coffee and biscuits I can trough thrown in.

Foulkes. Ye Gods and Little Fishes! Labour is now down to sending out the likes of him to defend Squealer Martin and Gordon Brown? He is the absolute acme of what the Scottish Labour party is like. Do we not remember the corruption in Airdrie and Coatbridge and other such places? This classic old style Labour politician is sent out in 2009 to defend democracy. Bring on the election and let us show Labour just what we think!

Dizzy referred to Lord Foulkes on his blog as "the twat who is fat". I think overweight people everywhere would object to being associated to this... well, twat.

Had to look up what oleaginous means! You let him off far too easily Mr Dale!

Here's my take on the lying Lord:-

I thought (thanks to Chris Paul), Foulkes (and Stephen Fry) were magnificent.

All this argument over £16,000,000 per year MAX, and virtually no coverage of the government endorsed decision to spend £16,000,000,000,000 on home uitility meteres over the next ten years to be charged to all consumers. Such meters may be a good idea, but a sense of proportion is needed here.

But the Jacobins don't give a damn.

I agree with the Telegraph publishing this data,

But the Telegraph is backed by the Barclay brothers, and we need to look at an agenda here.

I am no fan of Tory squires, but I would rather have them as part of our national life than weird twin singletons living in even weirder fake castles off the coast of Sark.

And what does it say about Foulkes?

Unsworth said...

@ Paul Halsall

"we need to look at an agenda here"

Two points:

a) What is 'an agenda'?

b) Why not look at it on your 'blog'?

As to the Barclay Bros, what on earth makes you believe they are "Tory squires"? Have you met them? What do you know of them and their politics?

Paul Halsall said...

@unsworth

I don't think I did call the Barclay's "Tory Squires." They seem more like nouveau riche hangovers from the 1980's show dynasty to me.

As to my own blog - I address politics, but it is not exactly a news-agenda driven blog. I address Catholic, cultural (esp medieval), and gay/gender issues just as often as politics.

I have been writing on the net since 1994 (as far as I can see from GOOGLE GROUPS), and I dare say I will address a variety of issues as long as I can type.

It says all you need to know about everything.

Presumably when the Glasgow sheetie is finally repatriated poor George will be down to zero pals...

Unsworth said...

@ Paul Halsall

So who were you referring to as 'Tory squires'?

I have met the disturbing Barclays some years ago when they were buying The Ritz. It is not an experience I wish to repeat. But I can assure you that their politics are way outside of what might be regarded as any form of 'Democracy' - as the good people of Brecqhou and Sark might tacitly agree.
