UPDATE: Panic over. Blogger won't let me do it. They say "While the new version of Blogger is still in beta, some users with certain types of blogs will not be able to switch to it. We will be adding support for these blogs as soon as possible, so everyone can join in the fun. But for now, if you have any of the following on your account, you will need to hold off for a bit:
A very large blog. (More than a couple thousand posts + comments."
Well thanks, guys, that more or less makes up my mind for me. Wordpress here I come.

'B' stands for Blogger not Beta
beta is a limited release version prior to new version release.
Blogger site says it is out of beta.jlo
You won't regret it!
Wordpress is very good. I have using various variants of it for quite a bit of time now. It is the platform for serious blogging. I hope the archive transfer is better than when I did it however...what a pain.
If anyone wants to explain in terms even non techy people like me can understand how to move from blogger to word press I would be interested to know.
We crossed over a couple of weeks ago after wasting hours trying to sort out Beta mess. Wordpress is much easier to drive, and it only took a couple of hours to get it up and running.
It won't let me switch either - and for the same reason....
There are two kinds of Wordpress, and you need to be aware of the differences before you make the switch.
Wordpress.com offers free hosting, but it's a shared blogging platform and so you can't change the template except under certain circumstances. You also can't host ads or put up any javascript or embeds. For you, I wouldn't recommend this (unless you like the VIP program, which doesn't have these restrictions but costs a ridiculous amount).
Then there's Wordpress.org, which requires a bit more tech savvy, but not so much that it's out of reach of most people. For this, you download the software and then upload it in your own webspace. Then all maintenance is up to you and, since it's not a shared platform you can put pretty much anything in it that you want. Also, the templates are purty and there are a LOT of plugins to choose from.
Best of all, both Wordpress.org and Wordpress.com come with Akismet spam filtering, which is incredible. Seriously, you won't miss those stupid little letter scrambles once you've got Akismet.
And no, they're not paying me for this. I have one blog on each platform and like them both, for different reasons. Wordpress.org is perfect for Iain.
And there have been improvements to the importing methods. Check the Wordpress.org help forums for info on that.
I would stay off beta blockers if you intend taking up bodybuilding.
For the sake of a dissenting voice. Personally, I would prefer it if you stayed in Blogger. We have a much better community over here. (It's a joke, guys, lighten up.)
I'm sure if Google & Co. get the message you're unhappy, helpful lackeys will magically appear, easing any difficulties of transition...
I couldn't import my blogger blog when I changed to Wordpress, had to start again and edit the template to link my blogger blog archives in with the Wordpress archives.
That said, it's worth doing - even if you can't migrate your content. You can always put a meta refresh into the template of your blogger blog so it auto-forwards to your new blog.
One word of advice though - think carefully before you decide to use wordpress.com's hosted option because it's a bugger to migrate to a self-hosted Wordpress blog afterwards.
Woot! If you need any help with Wordpress there'll be a ton of regular readers, myself included, who'd be only too happy to give a bit of assistance.
