Luiz Felipe Scolari Saves Charles Clarke!

How in Jesus' name did Tony Blair manage to get Luiz Felipe Scolari to withdraw his application for the England football manager's job at exactly the same time that Charles Clarke is in the brown stuff? You've got to admire it. A different way of burying bad news, but very effective!Naturally, Sky News have given up on Clarke and are concentrating on football! They broke off their interview with David Davis to bring us the news. When they returned to DD I was willing him to say "I bet you wish you had the other David Davies here!" For those who don't know their football, David Davies is the Executive Director of the Football Association. Bring on Martin O'Neill!

Can't understand it myself either, Iain. I mean, the man is a big supporter of Thatcher's favourite Chilean fascist General. Why would he want to help Clarke? Please don't answer that question.

Perhaps it says a lot about what the media thinks of it's audience.

Iian

I’m 100% for O’Neil to get the job (what would you expect from a Leicester City fan) or “Big Sam” both would be strong, inspirational British managers.

Yet I fear that the FA will just go with Mac and well get a lacklusta, indecisive manger when we had the chance at getting a true leader in the form of O’Neil or Allardyce.

Scolari would have been a good choice IMHO, but Linker got it right when he suggested that he’d have trouble getting use to the kind of football we play in the UK… the fact remains that either O’Neil or Allardyce would have (and might still be) better choices, anything but bloody Steve McClaren!

After reading about Scolari's homebody wife (whom he adores) I can understand why he doesn't want to be part of the media merrygoround in England.

Re Prezza and Rosiegate: The Fatman must realise that he's not off the hook. (Although Hugo Rifkin of The Times told me: "We need proof before we can publish allegations".)
Let's hope the redtops have a little more backbone on Sunday.

You clearly don't like Scolari Iain, but I suspect that has more to do with his sexual politics and your patriotism than anything to do with football.

For my part, I would have backed him for the job out of that field for one reason and one reason alone: he is the only candidate who would have had the guts to strip Beckham of the captaincy and give the job to the rightful candidate, John Terry.

Paul, I have been a Martin O'Neill man right from the beginning - not sure if that's being patriotic or not! I wouldn't base my judgement on Scolari purely on his bigotry, but I admit he wouldn;t have been my first choice!

well that's our national team f*cked then.

Note: whilst I have a soft spot for West Ham, their fans know nothing about football, therefore Iain's opinion is nonsense. ;-)

England were going to lose with or without Scolari. England players are overpayed morons who can't actually play football and certainly don't have any skill (except for maybe Lampard and Owen.)

As an Irishman, how would Martin O'Neill go about being an "inspirational British manager" exactly?

Jonesy, er he played for Northern Ireland. The last time I looked it was still part of the United Kingdom.

Throw in the White Witch visiting the Pope and the Media have been played again. Although I suspect that parts of the media will do anything to keep their beloved Tony in place!!
