Much hilarity at the BBC reception I've just emerged from. Two questions for you. Which BBC Governor got so paralytic he fell down some stairs in the bar? And which senior BBC News Executive described News 24 presenter Matthew Amroliwola as "up his own arse"? Nice to see our licence fee being spent so wisely. Hic.

Well, Matthew Amroliwola does come across as rather smarmy even on the screen...
Fair questions, although two minor matters preclude anyone normal from entering: (a) We have no idea who any of the BBC governors are; and (b) We have no idea who any BBC executives are.

I really dislike it when I read this "Which so and so was doing such and such" type of stuff. It's either saying "I get access these important things and I want you to know that but I don't want to lose my access so I'l just trail hints like this" or "I've just made this up". Why not tell us if you know and it's worth knowing?
Thanks Steve. Ruth Deech is the only one (apart from Grade of course) I have ever heard of. I bet it was Jez Peat though - he looks a rum sort of fellow.
I quite agree with you - either drop names properly or don't bother at all. This "I could tell you something earth-shattering but instead will hint at something somebody not particularly important who I can't name might have implied" schtick of Iain's is a bit tired.
The point of the piece was to point out how the licence fee was being spent and how senior BBC executives slag off their own staff at their own pissup. However, I take the point.
