Simply Beautiful
I don't often comment on art. There's a reason for that. Frankly I know nothing about it. But let me break the habit of a lifetime and say something nice about the Turner Prize winner Richard Wright. He has produced one of the beautiful pieces of art I have seen for a very long time. It may look like anaglypta (sp?) wallpaper made out of gold leaf but I find it hugely impressive.
And the best thing about it is that you'd never guess it had anything to do with the Turner Prize, whose reputation precedes it.

Alan Douglas
Damien Hurst and all the rest of the YBA movement would be skint and unknown if it wasn't for that Saatchi guy with all his millions.
One person deciding what is art?

It's probably due to dampness, maybe the wall needs re-pointing.
there's hope for you yet. have you been hanging out with the vaizey or something? :)
Iain Dale gets the value of beauty in art...well, I never.
It's all subjective anyway... but agreed.... It is a beautiful work.
What a lot of shite.
As is most 'art' these days.
I wonder what the medieval manuscript scribes would have thought of this Turner prize winner?
The magnificent books that were illustrated in poor candle light, or the work of the ancient Egyptians ,Vikings,Ancient Britons and countless others inspire wonder too don't they?
You have been dazzled by glittery gold waterpatterns Iain. Okayish, but it rather flys in the face of real art.
It would make good wallpaper to go with gold taps and gold door knobs in the Marble Arch/Edgeware Road part of London. What would be referred to in the trade as for people with zero taste and too much money.
A new genre - chav art.
