Questions to the Minister, Kiwi Style

This is an excerpt from Energy Questions in the New Zealand Parliament. It's hilarious. I'm not sure that this sort of exchange happens here very often, but even if it did, I wouldn't be able to tell you because our archaic broadcasting rules attempt to prevent clipping like this on Youtube.

I didn't realise there was a ban on posting clips of Parliament. According to this article

http://www.computing.co.uk/computing/news/2216409/speaker-blocks-moves-put

footage can only be used on a web site that is not searchable, and which prevents the content from being downloaded. From a technical point of view, these requirements are odd to say the least. You have to download the material in order to play it, and virtually all websites are indexed by search engines and so are searchable.

Meanwhile, our favourite broadcaster has a clip at

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7037045.stm

and their website is definitely searchable. It has its own search facility, as well as being indexed by outside search engines. I have also just downloaded the video, so I can confirm that it's definitely possible, although the website doesn't make it as easy as it might do.

Having spent 6 months working in the Beehive (NZ Parliament) for NZ National, I can honestly say the politicans involved over there leave ours standing when it comes to this kind of thing. Lockwood is a great Speaker and Brownlee and Parker are always good value. and the exchanges between Key and Goff are often top draw stuff. Brown, Clegg and Cameron could learn much.
