Speaking as a Lib Dem voter, I can’t say I disagree with what Richard Porter has said. Ming Campbell is a disaster, and the “all things to all people” approach is obviously going to do nothing to assist the Lib Dems in breaking through as a serious party for government.

Iain, is this the big defection you were promising us?

"It became clear to me after the general election that the Liberal Democrats really were trying to be all things to all people (something they've since admitted), and policy lacked clarity, thought and substance."

So the chap joins NuTories! Hilarious.

Forget the useless LibDems, the Brownite cult in the Labour Party is now in MELTDOWN.

Lord Adair Turner (who was CBI Chairman at the time) has made a statement totally denying the Brownite claims that the CBI lobbied for the pension changes in 97, implying that Brown and his stooge Balls are lying through their teeth and trying to switch the blame for the destruction of over 11 million worker's pensions

Turner also strongly questioned Brown's suitability to be Prime Minister.

The tables are turning against Brown, increasing numbers within the Party and the unions, including many former Brown supporters, are determined that this shyster does not make leader.

I can assure you that there will be many more chickens coming home to roost for Brown in the weeks and months ahead and the Labour Party may yet end up with a leader capable of beating Cameron at the next election.

This article could be summarised as "the Tories have become the Lib Dems". So the question is not why Richard Porter is now a member of the Conservative Party, but why anyone who was not a Lib Dem until December 2006 is still a member or supporter of the Conservative Party.

Just to balance out the story, why not have a look at www.myspace.com/adriansandersmp, the blog of the Lib Dem Torbay MP, for a report on the defection of two Tory councillors to the Lib Dems in the same week in protest at the actions of the Tory administration down there...

See also the current Lib Dem News which features David Laws welcoming a Tory defector to the party in Salisbury. Oh, how we laughed (at George Osborne).

Tom, I’m only a Lib Dem voter, not a member. Will Ming be leader in 2-3 years time? Probably. It’s just too embarrassing to ditch your leader twice in between elections. I thought Chris Huhne was the obvious candidate, but I’m just going by appearances really. What I could never understand were those who continued to back Charles Kennedy as leader even after his problems came out in the open. Do they want us to take them seriously or not?

Exactly! Another proof that the UK is becoming a one-party state.

Yes, Jorgen, but what are YOU doing about it?
