Stripping Off to Save Danish Bacon

Click HERE to see a Danish Road Safety film. No, really. You'll want to. Well, most of you will.

"This movie was made by the Danish Road Safety Council and aims to draw attention to speed signs and speed limits in Denmark. Despite a decrease in speed violations, 7 out of 10 Danes still exceed the speed limit on a regular basis. Respecting the speed limits is the simplest way to save lives." So says the blurb at www.speedbandits.dk

I can't put my finger on why I think this, but I doubt whether our road traffic minister Stephen Ladyman will approve a similar initiative here... What a shame Steve Norris is no longer in charge of such issues...

PS I promise you this is an official Danish Government road safety film. It is not a YouTube spoof.

I thought it was only speed cameras which flashed you!

Can't see it working in Tunbridge Wells, the average speed is about 2 mph.

Time to stop and stare perhaps...

Are you sure the Danish police employ a man named "Bent Koch Hansen"?

David Cameron needs some policies to keep Murdoch happy. In blue pants of course.

The item had a vague credibility until the point where a local police chief called "Bent Koch Hansen" appeared.

Still, a commendable effort on a wet Sunday morning.

Bloody brilliant!

The Englishmans Castle had this exact post about two weeks ago. Still funny all the same.

It can't be a spoof. The policeman was called Bent Koch Hansen. You wouldn't make it up.

I can't really see this being very effective, given the withdrawal of that Elle McPherson advert for some lingerie, which was blamed for road accidents.

What would the Sun make of it?

"BARMY NEW EURO SPEEDING RULES...err, new headline, think of the readers...PHOOARRI! FELLAS GO SLOW FOR DANISH STUNNAS"

What about speeding ladies and gays? Will we get pretty boys with sixpacks that 'wave' their goods at us?

Perhaps they should 'borrow' the technology they have on some pelican crossings, where the 'green man' is covered by some vertical venetian blinds. That way you have to be on the crossing before you are told whether it is safe to cross, thus preventing jaywalking. It would prevent 'rubber necking' but might work too well..

On a serious note, making people aware of speed limits can be a more cost effective way of saving lives than a speed camera. British speed signs 'flash' rather more sedately from detecting a car's speed, and cost ten times less than a speed camera. Most sensible people pay some attention.

It doesn't stop hardened speedsters, but then neither do speed cameras.

Now we've got Polly Toynbee on our side, can't we get her to volunteer for a Tory version of the film? That should really stop the traffic.

Can imagine the government's search through it's giant database to find more Bent Kochs to start in a British version!
