There has been a very welcome trend this year of Conservatives winning all sorts of political awards. This hasn't happened for years and is hopefully a further sign of a revival in Conservative fortunes.
This lunchtime the Political Studies Association (the trade association for political academics, since you ask) is holding its annual awards and I can tell you that the right has swept the board. Tory MP Richard Bacon continues his world domination of awards ceremonies as he collects Parliamentarian of the Year, while David Cameron wins the Politician of the Year. Matthew D'Ancona deservedly collects Journalist of the Year. David Trimble shares the Lifetime Achievement Award with John Hume (the only leftish award winner).
I am delighted that ConservativeHome is the winner of Publication of the Year. Richly deserved. I do hope Mr Montgomerie has an emotional acceptance speech prepared. My Kleenex will be at the ready.
UPDATE: I originally posted this yesterday lunchtime as I was told it had a Monday noon embargo. However, it transpired that I was given the wrong info and the emargo was this lunchtime. I therefore took the post down in the interim.

And these self congratulaTORY awards sure as hell tell us up front where the Countries assets will go if georgy boy is given the Country's cheque book.
Doom.
Shame there isn't a "lost the plot" award-guess who wins a second prize?
"My Kleenex will be at the ready."
Are you sure a sick bag wouldn't be more apt?
Since you intimate you're in the know - can you tell us who came close for politican of the year? I'd have thought Adam Price would be a contender.

Iain,
Can I suggest that you avoid doing anything *too* perverse in public. Leave the Kleenex at home and keep your hands out of your pockets during Tim's acceptance speech.
Oooh, will there be musical acts? Which network has the exclusive on the red carpet?
Should we not have a "Questions for Dave" link across to C'Home?
Raincoaster,
Presumably that earlier incarnation of the Bee Gees, The Tossers.
never heard of them
are they part of the welsh eistedfodd??
"Matthew D'Ancona deservedly collects Journalist of the Year"
A bald statement. Will you qualify it, Iain?
This is fantastic news for Tim and Sam.
He will more likely have a prayer of thanks than a speech of thanks.
You said they they are all on the right, but did you not say David Cameron won an award. He is on the left.
How cares about these crapy awards. Those involved should remove their heads from each others behinds and get on with their jobs.
Remember Iain, even though 'Mr Kleenex will be at the ready' you still have to follow the party line and don't let the inner-tosser inside you get out.
David Cameron, politician of the year, why, what has he done to deserve this, anything remarkable? Who's Tim Mongomerie, when he's at conservativehome? And, what about Iain Dale, ain't he good enough to win nowt?
I agree with blamerbell - Adam Price should really have won something for his efforts
So did the winners have to 'act surprised' when they got their awards ? Great work, Mr Dale !
The media is here to serve the people by giving them information. Surely embargoes are a bad thing Mr Dale and in fact allow the media and companies to control the information shared with the masses?
Iain, what gushing nonsense. You are clearly still suffering from your recent bout of diana fever, a media-communicated illness which affects those of certain temperaments and causes them to emote profusely when feeling close to celebrities, living or dead, real or illusory. I do hope you recover soon.
Let's face it Iain, there wasn't much serious competition.
Worst cat impression by a party leader goes to George Galloway
Worst impression of a sci - fi evil emperor goes to Ming the Merciless
Lifetime award for ineptitude...
too bad the PSA dont do a blog award, then...
Hmm, I hope Ancona won it for his S Tel work, as The Spectator is circling the drain at the moment.
So tell me - and I mean this quite seriously - just what has Desperate Dave done to warrant being crowned as politician of the year?
Though it all depends on one's definition of politician, I suppose. Meaningless sound-bites and photo opportunities (hug a hoodie, hug a husky) interspersed with reneging on promises/principles (Euro Parliament grouping, smaller government) seem to define today's politicians perfectly. Combine those with a startling resemblance to Mr Potato Head and he could well be the perfect politician.
And the MSM ask why the electorate is turned off.
'Cos they're a bunch of tossers, that's why.
Wow a good example of why people think the elite in the UK have lost the plot. (Exception being Tim who does have a good site.)
How about 18DoughtyStreet holding an awards ceremony for political bloggers next year?
this is old news now...
