Orange Reinstate Inigo Wilson

Remember the case of Inigo Wilson who was suspended by Orange for writing an article on ConservativeHome? (see HERE) Guido reports that he has been reinstated with 'no case to answer'. Guido, Tim and I should be careful not to make a big thing of this. It's quite clear that the pressure from the blogosphere put huge pressure on Orange - but it's not in Inigo Wilson's interests for anyone to gloat.

You're right, the blogosphere can exert pressure. But I just came from Comment Is Free when I refuted an article praising You Tube as a great democratizer. Personally I don't see how a few million Beavis and Butthead thinkalikes jerking off in front of webcams is ever going to engage intelligent opinion.
Sometimes I wonder why I read The Guardian.

I made 2 postings on ConservativeHome and appear to have been banned.I don't MIND being banned but I'd like the courtesy of being told why.

But we can email Orange and tell them what a good decision they made in reinstating him - can't we?

And, I'll even make sure I don't put it should never of happended in the first place. How's that?

Well done to everyone who jumped onboard with this and helped the guy out.

Ah, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Mr Schoolboy Error,

His Grace has always found the editor of that site, Mr Montgomerie, to be one of the most perceptive and polite people in politics. If you have been banned, you may rest assured that the reason is utterly reasonable. Mr Montgomerie is undoubtedly very busy, but His Grace is certain that a request to know the reason for the censorship will meet with a response, whether you agree with it or not, and yet he has a hint of suspicion that you really do know why...

Here is the text of an email I sent to Conservative Home on 1st October:

" I use the non de plume of 'wonderful for his age'.

On attempting to post a comment to your blog a few moments ago I got an error message saying 'You are not allowed to post comments'.

Is this a mistake?"

I've no inkling of what I may have done to merit banning. I assumed it was a mistake. There has been no reply as yet. In Montgomerie's defence I recognise that the ten days between my emailing him and now included the Tory Conference and all the activity in the run up to the grand opening of 18DoughtyStreet.

In the past Iain has declined to publish one or two comments of mine and I understood why (I was being very rude about the Boy Dave and his cohorts) but he's not banned me - touch wood.

Having a comment kicked into touch by the blogger seems reasonable. Being banned just like that - not so reasonable.

Congratulations to both Ingo Wilson and Orange.

"gloaters"

It's a funny word. I imagine "gloaters" sitting there, rubbing their hands with GLEE.

The future's Indigo.

ian, you don't have as much experience with YouTube as you should. There is real art being posted there, as well as some very provocative and intelligent political commentary.

Inigo has certainly proven his ability to mobilize the blogosphere as well as the communities to whom he is employed to communicate, but he seems better at the former than the latter. Is there any reason to believe he's improved his ability to endear his employer to the community? His rather public failure there was what got him put on ice in the first place.

yeah, youtube is quite free of jerkoff fodder really. BUt great if you are trying to find an original of "The Only Ones" playing "Another girl another planet" (Voodafone advert)

Reason has returned to his throne at Orange.

They should have employed Jenny Tonge. She's good at keeping her views to herself.
