Since Sunday evening the whole world has been debating what Italian defender Marco Materazzi said to Zinedine Zidane to make the retiring Frenchman react in the way he did. The French captain, in his last ever professional game, thrust his head into Materazzi's chest in Sunday's World Cup Final resulting in a red card and shame for Zidane. Today, with the help of Italian lip-reader Arturo Belladini, I can reveal what drove Zidane to self destruct. Materazzi is seen to hold Zidane's shirt on the edge of the penalty box in extra-time at which point Zidane says "If you want my shirt so bad you can have it." Materazzi responded "I don't want your shirt, you m***** f*****! You're a f****** old man." As they jog away Zidane is seen to laugh at this and it is unclear how he responds due to him having his back to the TV camera. Materazzi then hurls a volley of abuse. "You should've quit two years ago, you're a f****** has-been! M***** f*****! Your mum is a f****** Muslim terrorist and you are too! F*** you, old man! F*** you, old man! This arena is not for you anymore, m***** f****! Your sister is a whore and the whole Italian team has f***** her! F*** off, you bald c**t!" Zidane carries on jogging away.
Then Materazzi says "You are only good enough for Spurs."
It is at this point that Zidane turns and head-butts him.
Well, it made me laugh.

Very good, im sure it works well with West Ham aswell. Its one of those -insert rival team of your mate here- sort of thing.
I laughed.
I feel rather sorry for Zidane. If a cheating high-ti git had spoken about my Mother in that tone. he would not be feeling sore. he just wouldn't be feeling anything. All After the "game" of cause.
It didn't make ME laugh. What dreadful things to say to anyone.
Wonderfully and elegantly crafted. I'm still smiling minutes later. (Mind you I've had just the one).
What actually happened is that Materazzi accused Zidane of being French - it would certainly make most people irate.
If they punish Materazzi for alleged, uncorroberated insults, then every time someone is booked for a foul they will produce the "insult card".
Zidane should have pleaded insanity and left it at that.
Sympathy for Zidane is hard to muster for anyone but the French. He acted like a thug and a child...should be seen as that.

Well, hasn't Zidane ever heard of Gallic sang-froid? Hell, I'd just laugh at having the morals of my mother sisters impugned by a greasy little wop who looks so inbred he sends his sister a Mother's Day present, just in case. Vile tirades like that are probably Materazzi's idea of foreplay.
Weel done the captain of France for attacking an Italian who insulted Spurs.
