Clare Moody's Real Role in Number Ten

I'm really not sure why everybody is so shocked that UNITE pays the salary of a female member of the Number Ten Staff? Why is this news?

I mean, someone has to be on hand when the door to Number Ten swings open to take Charlie Whelan's hat and coat from him...
