Advice Please!

UPDATE: PANIC OVER! It's all working again, although Christ knows what I did. Thanks to all your tips. Something must have done it, but I can't tell you what!

I made a big mistake this afternoon and installed North Anti Virus 2006 onto my laptop. I now cannot send or receive email, having clicked the Integrate Norton Anti Spam into Outlook button. Can anyone advise me on what to do? Should I uninstall Norton and start again or is there some sort of setting I can change in Outlook? I run email through IMAP servers. HEEELLLPP!

Use gmail instead.. A web-based email...

But seriously, have you tried disabling or uninstalling the antivirus?

Have you tried Mozilla Thunderbird?

I've no idea how to uninstall it, but if you want an AVP which doesn't c*ck up e-mails (and which, better still, is free), try AVG (go to wwww.grisoft.com and download the free version)

If you don't fancy AVG (or it doesn't work for you), then the best paid-for AVP is Kaspersky.

If it's any consolation, I know from personal experience that Norton AVP has done to plenty of other people what it's done to you.

Good luck!

Uninstall it, if you can. I had so many problems with Norton that I just threw in the towel.

Like jaz said, ditch the pile of junk that is Outhouse, and install Thunderbird.

This will be very tricky to sort. How are you approving your comments if you can't access your email?

Yes, Uninstalling Norton and re-installing it carefully should do the trick.

If it doesn't work, try going into the Outlook menu (i assume you're using Outlook 2003)
Tools --> Options --> Mail Setup

-Click on the E-mail Accounts button.
-Then Click on View or Change Existing Email Accounts.
-Click on next and select the email account that is acting up.
-Click on the change button

Reset the settings to whatever they were originally.

Do all this before putting the NAV2006 back on.

Hope this helps! You can email me if you're still having problems, i imagine you have some webmail account - boredcasuisthotmaildotcom

I gave up on Norton/Symantec a couple of years ago now. The damn stuff just takes over. Te assumption seems to be that everything, but everything revolves around Symantec. It caused me no end of problems. It is also next to impossible to clear your machine of it. The standard XP add/remove progs leaves all sort of stuff in the registry that remains active.

I've been using McAfee for a couple of years but am beginning to have issues with that too

Bloody computers.

eI can sympathise, I had exactly the same problem a month or so ago. I ended up calling their helpline which was based in Delhi and after several calls and following their advice for a whole day, I eventually uninstalled it and reinstalled it under their guidance which is what I wanted to do in the first place. I was not charged for this, but have not had the phone bill yet. The number should be on their web.

I was also frantic about it too, good luck.

Buy a Mac.

The only thing a PC is better at is crashing.
