Oaten Searches for Himself: Part 94

Mark Oaten will psycholanalyse himself tomorrow (Tuesday) on Newsnight. He says: "I want to understand why politicians come off the rails". Oh, I can't wait. Nor, I am sure can all my Liberal Democrat friends. Can no one stop this slo-mo car crash?

Never mind that shit. I've just seen Louise Bagshawe on Newsnight.
What a ball-breaker! If she were NuLabour, I'd hate her. But she's one of us. Rejoice!

Hopefully all this will lead to a Conservative general election gain in Winchester.

If the Tories don't retake Winchester with a thumping majority, then Cameron should resign!

Oaten is now just raging against the dying of the light on his political career. It is over, the body politic has given up the ghost. Let it pass peacefully into history.

There is nothing he can do to expunge his recent history. Anytime he appears on TV, everyone's first thought will be 'Oh, that's the bloke who was doing something unspeakable with a rent boy.' He can't change that - the Oaten brand is fatally wounded.

As the saying goes in Southern US politics - never be caught with a dead girl or a live boy in your bed.

Why ?

Can't he just accept that he had his "moments of madness" and indulged his urges. The public is not happy and he cannot play this game of expressing his sorrow at whatever - they will not vote for him. End of story.

Oaten is in a mess, his political future is like looking into a dark hole, which coincidentally is how this whole problem started.

*meh* As I've said elsewhere, nobody should really be surprised that Oaten is a Clintn/Blair style pathological narcissist. But it's about time for the media to start saying to this man that there are some things that should stay between a man and his God, or at least a man and a mental health professional. :)

I think it's time to call in the UK's Oprah for a full-scale uninhibited shameless blubbathon.

"I lost my hair..." sniff

"Distressed... I did what any other man in that position would do..." sniff

"I phoned a complete stranger and claimed to be a diplomat..." blub

He is, sadly, behaving oddly. After a longer period of 'quiet reflection' perhaps, but recent behaviour suggest that he still has 'issues'.

Oaten came over okay on the report. He effectively said he wouldn't be staying at the next election, and didn't try to blame other people. His argument wasn't terribly convincing but I doubt he knows why he did it really. Wish the bloke luck with the rest of his life and leave him alone I think.

I caught the last 5-10 minutes of MO on Newsnight and thought it was toe-curling. I also suspect that there was some very deliberate editing of ambient noise (the shouts of the gym instructor etc) to ramp up the snigger factor.

Supposedly the whole schmeer is on the Newsnight website - or rather will be - as it isn't at the moment.
