That great political sage Marina Hyde (former squeeze of Piers Morgan) has a piece in today's Guardian headlined ARE THE LIBDEMS BENT ON TOTAL SELF DESTRUCTION?
On the basis of recent briefings, one can only imagine the Liberal Democrats are suffering from some kind of collective paradise syndrome. For reasons that remain utterly abstruse, many in the party clearly believe its existence to be so unassailably perfect that they are driven to rash, but above all, bewildering acts of sabotage. And not for them the relatively routine appendectomy. In the past week alone, we have heard stage whispers about Ming Campbell's rapidly oxidising leadership, suggesting a contest may be forced after the Lib Dems have inflicted their party conference on Brighton next month. We have - speaking of specialist diversions - heard Mark Oaten's wife Belinda break her silence yet again in a TV interview. And we have had Charles Kennedy emerge with a refusal to rule out leading the party again.
Clearly, nothing less than open-heart surgery will do.

Iain, Iain, Don't start the day with all this serious stuff!
Try something far lighter - like Michael White's article on the Guardian site today, about how Charles Kennedy is going to be the Liberal Democrat leader again...
Is it wrong to find Marina Hyde attractive? That is the real question here.
no it's not prolix
A touch of the Keira Knightleys methinks
I cannot work out if Marina Hyde is decent looking or not. What is she like in the flesh?
prolix, of course it's not wrong. Anyone who cannot afford NHS specs is to be sympathised with rather than chasties these days!
And anyone who has been a 'squeeze' of Piers Morgan is much to be pitied.
I understand that Rupert murdoch doesn't like Ming Campbell too much, probably because the Scotsman is younger, fitter and better looking than him. of course he may not have such thickly -padded pockets, otherwise known as Deng-appeal.
God!! I've just (tried to) read her article. She writes considerably worse than she looks.
On "Newsnight Review" (BBC 2 - 28 July) Marina Hyde was described as a "journalist". There was no mention that she works for the Guardian. Is it possible that the BBC is becoming embarrassed that (with the exception of Michael Gove) all contributors to Newsnight Review are either actual Guardianistas or toe the Guardianista line?

The picture makes her look like a character from Star Wars. She is considerably better-looking in the flesh.
Ming can at least go and do the job he's suited for - being the new grandad on the Werther's Original ads.
wearing fox fur (and all animal fur come to think of it) is illegal, isn't it?
Preferred Marina when she had long, curly hair. Although someone more voluptuous is more my taste.
I miss Marina Hyde's Diary. The Saturday piece is just not enough.
