Victoria Cross Heroes
Do yourself a favour. Click HERE to buy this superb new book tracing the history of the Victoria Cross. It's written by Michael Ashcroft and was launched at the Imperial War Museum on Monday. I had a small part in helping with the book and it's been a real journey of discovery for me. I knew precious little about the VC beforehand but to read the stories of bravery and valour in the book is very moving. Michael has a collection of 142 VCs, which he has built up over the last twenty years. To mark the 150th anniversary of the award of the first VC, he's about the put them on public exhibition in London next year so the whole country can share in them. There's also a new website on the VC HERE and on November 19th at 8pm Channel 5 start a three part series on the Victoria Cross.

Not sure what that post means, but...
I was saddened to hear this being discussed on radio 4, and a guest on the programme (a theatre producer I think) said to the books review (or it may even have been the author) "It is difficult to seperate the acts of winning these awards from the imperialist actions in which they were won". I could have smashed his f*****g face in if I'd been in the studio!
How low has our liberal world sunk?
it was tariq ali but ashcroft got him by asking him to name any government since world war 2 tahat tariq felt was closest to whst he stood for. ne could not give one!!!!
Yes,I heard that too. How the BBC still lowers itself by giving airtime to types like tariq Ali is beyond me.
Looks like an excellent book. Must get a copy.
