New Book on the Scottish Secretaries
I've just come across a new book profiling all the Scottish Secretaries. It's by David Torrance and you can buy it HERE. I remember just before I sold Politico's Publishing David offered me the chance of publishing the book so I'm delighted to see that Birlinn, an excellent Scottish publishing company took it on. The book even has its own website HERE.

Being a Scot and a bit of a political anorak (as demonstrated by mixing it with you lot here on Iain's blog) I was tempted enough by the book's website to look it up on Amazon.co.uk to see how much it is - but it isn't there.
I went back to the website - you can buy direct from the publisher for, wait for it, thirty quid!!!
I don't think they'll be selling many of these to general readers at that price, especially when it's not on Amazon.
P.S. Do you know that copper wire was invented by two Scotsmen? They were arguing over a penny... :-)
Andrew, it is on amazon. Do a search under either 'David Torrance' or 'Scottish Secretaries' and then scroll down. You may find the price on amazon a little more affordable. Cheers, David.
Blatant spam. This is twice now that you've recommended we buy books from your old book shop, where you get a referral fee.
Anonymous, er, I think it's what's called recommending a book. And is there a crime from getting a commission? If you don't like this blog feel free not to visit it. The way some people are behaving at the moment it seems to me it's a crime to write about anything.
So I'm now not allowed to recommend books, not allowed to earn a living, not allowed to write about 18 Doughty Street, not allowed to write about football. Perhaps if I just left the whole blog blank people might be happier? Just a thought!
Cheers Iain, that's my dad's Christmas present sorted.
You should set up a little referral system for political Christmas presents. I personally couldn't care less if you get commission or talk about your commercial ventures. As long as its amusinng and good gossipy I'll keep coming back.
