The Basic Law of Journalism...
According to John Humphrys in this week's Spectator, the basic law of journalism states...
"First simplify, then exaggerate."
Newsnight's Gavin Esler has just included it at the top of their daily email. Isn't it nice to know that journalism has absolutely everything nothing in common with blogging?!

Bloggers have integrity, belief, and a sense of humour!
Iain, If you think JH and GE are lying awake worrying about the impact your 'journalims' is having on their employer you are living in cloud cuckoo land.

Its true that Blogging is relatively new but I personally think its not entirely away from Journalism.
Journalism is ofcourse time old !
Blogging is of latest trends.
The main difference that I find is blogging is beyond national boundaries and reaches wider audience in as much that even journalists started posting their blogs so as to cover wider arena !

I thought the basic law of journalism was summed up in the words, "You provide the pictures and I'll provide the war".
Or,
"Every news story is accurate except the one you have personal knowledge of."
Isn't it the basic law of politics as well? ... Iain??
Isn't the basic law of journalism "be sure they'll be an open bar before you commit?" It's always served me well.
And there I was hoping for honesty.
I like my news to be news, and connet to be comment.

Anonympous, where on earth did I suggest that?

I always thought that the motto was "Never let the facts get in the way of a good story".

Surely this has come from the Lib Dem handbook of campaigning?
