Charles Clarke to Stand Again
I understand from "Norfolk sources" that Charles Clarke will definitely be standing again at the next election. Norwich LibDems had apparently been putting it around that he would be standing down. They only need a 4% swing to unseat him.

Poll in tomorrows indepndent puts Labour in the lead, comments Iain
It's in the Norfolk Eastern Daily Press http://new.edp24.co.uk/content/news/story.aspx?brand=EDPOnline&category=News&tBrand=edponline&tCategory=news&itemid=NOED27%20Nov%202006%2018%3A06%3A16%3A320
well he's not been reselected yet, and the party in Norwich is an odd all-purpose one, like the Reading one, which is selecting for Reading East on 10th December.
LibDems are pretty much out of the race here now - council wise they've bene crushed and will continue to be so (two more wards vulnerable next May). Their campaigning has gone to pot. I've just been to watch a full council meeting and they have no steam. All three parties knocked lumps out of them. The Greens will take large chunks of their vote.
It'll either be a Tory gain or Clarke will hold on - everybody knows it.
Please, please, please - can Tories vote tactically for the Lib Dems and get rid of 2 Pizzas? I write as a Labour member who is sick of him and the way he carries on. Imagine the look on his face, and the bad grace he'll show, when he's booted out.
It must be remembered when your friendly anonymous claims that the Lib Dems have fallen apart that
1) They topped the poll in last years local elections in Norwich South even though they lost seats, that the Tories came 4th) 2) The Green success does not transfer to national votes in a general election. Just see how the GReens polled 6% in the general election but polled more than three times that vote in the County Elections held the same day. 3) If it is such a winnable seat for the Tories why was thie parliamentary candidate trying so hard ot get selected elsewhere ?

Not really its only communicate research, is unweighted like Mori, understates Tory/overstates Labour.
Should be due a real poll soon - YouGov
Good old Charles Clarke, a kind of half-way mark between John Prescott and Dennis Skinner.
That doesn't surprise me, I'm wondering whether David Blunkett will stand again.
Was there ever any doubt about this? Clarke sees himself as a big player in Labour's future, whatever anyone else thinks of him.
Bang goes another heavyweight.
Hears to another Conservatiev Gain.
You Gov were doing a political poll over the weekend.
Its an on-line poll and my understanding is that it closed at 10.00am yesterday.

Not much of a swing needed.Iain needed less than that to oust Norman Lamb.......
Oh right, that never actually happened, did it?
Charles has the weight advantge
I'm not sure the Lib Dems will have so much luck in Norwich this time round. They've been losing council seats to both Labour and the Greens.
Their campaigning has just run out of steam.
I'm pretty sure the Lib Dems will be delighted that Clarke is standing again!
"They only need a 4% swing to unseat him"
With a bum that size, if Charles Clarke sat on a swing it would break!
Standing again at the next erection? Or, should I book a visit with the optician?
I am surprised the fat git can stand at all, frankly
the heffalump is back ! yay !
as steve bell might say - he couldn't organise a urine sample in a golden shower..
Iain, sorry but it is utter twaddle to suggest that the lib Dems were suggesting the Charles Clarke would not stand again.
I know the PPC for Norwich South for the Lib Dems (so do you !) and he and his team hav said nothing of the sort.
