UNITE Pays Salaries of Many Labour Staffers

A tweet from the Tories' Head of Press, Henry Macrory...

I do hope they are all properly declared as a donation in kind to the Electoral Commission...

It seems to me that Charlie Whelan has just broken the first rule of PR. Don't fan the flames of a story which is hurting you.

Does he actually mean directly, or just via donating to the party? What is the context of the quote?

Unite set out its intentions (their vision) in the Report of the Joint General Secretaries for year ending December 2008, where the Union sets out its aim...

This vision is comprised of three components...

"Thirdly, a policy of enhancing Unite’s influence politically. While a fair amount has been achieved already in terms of influence with the current Government, the upcoming General Election and the revival of the Conservative Party mean that the process of reclaiming the Labour Party for workers needs to be accelerated."

The Future...
"Our aim is to consolidate our position as the premier campaigning Union, not just in size, but in impact and
influence."

The forthcoming election really does risk the UK falling back to the Industrial relations that led the UK to be called the sick man of Europe, if the public do not vote to get rid of Gordon Brown.

Whilst he suggests the deficit will be largely removed by cuts in public spending, there is no way his paymasters would allow it.

Where has this payment been declared to the electoral commission. I don't remember seeing it when I had a look.

So, the big question is this then. How many staffers has Michael Ashcroft funded over the years?

@Allan. The real question is has Mandy approved this, given his "friendly relationship" with Whelan?

The point is that people like Whelan and Moody work for Labour, but are paid for by Unite. If you have proof that Ashcroft has funded anyone, pass that on to the police. If you have no evidence, then pi** off.

On the other hand, there is more than sufficient evidence to show that Unite is paying for Labour party employees.

Next Tory government is going to launch massive sustained attack on the only official bodies representing working (full tax-paying) people in their economic sphere - trade unions. Cue flurry of stories attacking trade unions and softening up the public for a Tory assault.

Same old nasty Tories.

Well, there's the £5.1 million he has given to the Tories

which are as legal as... well Unite's ongoing donations to New Labour

...er, no. What's going to happen is that the unions are going to launch a massive and sustained attack on a democratically elected (Conservative) government to frustrate the will of the people.

There's a very good article in the Spectator predicting a politically motivated general strike.
