Day One at Conference
Each day this week I am doing a conference diary for Policy Review TV (a sort of 18 Doughty Street reincarnated). Today I spoke to David Cameron, Peter Hitchens, Michael Dobbs and Nicky Campbell, among others.
Cameron was clearly confused about the detail of his retirement age change this morning on the Today interview - he floundered about the saving - does the £1bn a year refer to women's retirement age increasing at the same time to 66, or not? Clearly this policy has not been thought through properly and expect actuarial experts to be critiquing it in detail over the next few days.
He was in full-blown smooth-talking Dave mode this morning - as we plunge into the pain, we will at least be consoled by what a charming all round decent kind of a guy he is.
Oh and we will get another free vote on hunting, gosh, let's make sure we get the really important policy issues across. Hurrah! Under the New Tory Britain, we will once more salute the hunting cup and watch the redcoats sailing across the hedgerows unmolested by grotty suburban animal-lover types!
It really is like 18 Doughty Street reincarnated... I get an error page when I click that link. It redirects me to http://www.policyreview.tv/pages/error.html?error_num=10
Iain: You should get hold of the Paxman/B Johnson interview from yesterday's Newsnight (which being busy you probably missed). Boris skewered Paxo up like a stuffed-pig and left him speechless. Paxman had been making jibes about Cameron doing nothing but PR when he left university which got Boris fuming and he started off on one. Great fun !

ReplyDeleteI used to enjoy 18 Doughty Street TV- whatever happened? Is a comeback likely?

ReplyDeleteI'm sensing a slight pain, sensing nostalgia, feeling you still haven't quite gotten over the disappointment.
For a minute, you almost had your own Television Station, and I think we may yet see 'Iain Dale TV' on the Sky EPG...
Truth or double dare ?
If Cameron gets any more smarmy he will turn into slime.
ReplyDeleteFeels like it's 1992 all over again:
