News of the World: Headline 'Tories Shuffle Fiasco'.Reshuffle to be postponed as no one wants to be Party Chairman. Hague and Fox have both turned it down.
Sunday Times: Hague has told Cameron he does not want to be Party Chairman. Fox will remain in post because firing him would cause too much trouble.
Sunday Telegraph: Cameron backs away from radical reshuffle. Willetts and May to be moved. Grayling and Mitchell in line for chairmanship.
Observer: Cameron faces split within Tory ranks. Maude and Willetts on the skids. Gove and Vaizey to enter Shadow Cabinet.
Mail on Sunday: Maude to be sacked and replaced by Caolrine Spelman. Swire to go too. Osborne to given sweeping new powers.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if in the light of the terror attacks David Cameron didn't postpone his rehuffle until the end of this week or even next week.
Ooh..I think he's going to bottle it..
ReplyDeleteThey say there's no such thing as bad publicity....
ReplyDeleteIs there nobody who can bang heads together anymore in this party?
ReplyDeleteWe need an Iain Macleod(the only Tory Harold Wilson feared) and quickly
But who in our party does Gordon Brown " fear" ?
Either the Conservatives get their act together quickly or I- a member for 40 years- will never forgive them. Either the Conservatives as one back their elected leader or we face more years in Opposition, where we can only talk about getting things done.
Thank heavens we at least have a team of experienced politicians at the helm with bombs going off rather than Eton Dave,Boy George and the whiz bang kids from cchq.
ReplyDeleteBut talk about getting what done?
ReplyDeleteGeorge Osbourne to get "sweeping new powers"?
ReplyDeleteOh dear.
Hope they at least give him a decent broom!
ReplyDeleteAnon 11.05 - It's appropriate that the current shower in government should sort out Labour's Bombs. But in a short while we'll need some decent guys in control.
ReplyDeleteWill Gordo please call an election as an act of christian charity to the Conservative party and bring an end to the current leaderships media only, policyless existence.
ReplyDeleteEnough is enough.
perdix: what we don't need at the moment is a team of nice sweet innocent political boy scouts.
ReplyDeleteHave just seen a picture of M.Gove for the first time.No more pictures should be published. He looks likes someone out of a "Carry On".Or maybe that's the idea these days.
ReplyDeleteOh for heaven's sake!
ReplyDeleteDid we not expect there to be a little honeymoon period for Brown? He is seeen as the change that people were depserte for, hence he can do no wrong - for now!
But give the population some credit. They will soon wake up and remember that Gordo has been around for the past ten years plus, and has his fingerprints on just about every newLab cock-up going!
As for David Cameron - give him a chance. He has reversed the fortunes of the Tory Party somewhat, and is starting to reconnect with a few people outside of my own particular wing of the party (the rabid right). If I can trust him, I suspect anyone can.
Be pragmatic people. The alternative to David Cameron is not a suitable right-winger. It's Gordon Brown!
Osborne with too much power. Oh dear. A bit on the wild side. can't we have someone more likely to steady the ship?
ReplyDeleteCameron needs a bigger tent - inside the party let alone in the country.
Michael Gove = Charles Hawtrey! What a mess this is! I'm coming to the conclusion that DC could not shuffle a packet of cards, let alone the shadow cabinet! I'm becoming increasingly bored by DC. He may well be ' a very nice man, a very, very nice man' but as to a leader? Could he lead a dog? Probably not.
ReplyDeleteDave sadly has blown it!Time to move on to hopefully a "boil lancing" early election.
ReplyDeletedave is urging Gordo to call an early. Please, please, please PM-MAKE HIS DAY!
ReplyDeleteOsborne to get new sweeping powers? Well he can start here, my study is a bit of a tip. Glad to see he has a new post to match his talents.
ReplyDeleteSo who said he knew how to use a broom?
ReplyDeleteMy fantasy Shaddow Cabinet would include:
ReplyDeleteLeader: David Cameron
Dep Leader and Chairman: William Hague
Foreign Secretary: George Osborne
Chacellor: David Davies
Health: Liam Fox
Defence: Andrew Mitchell
Education: Alan Duncan
CMS: Ed Vaisey
International Development: Chris Grayling (or John Bercow!!!)
It's a bit white and male! But it's not exhaustive.
Yalland-the Member for Monmouth will be delighted with this strong support.
ReplyDeletewhy not wait for the strengths (alright, weeknesses, as well) and direction (alright, misdirection, if you must) of the Brown administration to emerge before deploying his forces?
ReplyDeleteIt's all falling apart.
ReplyDeleteOsborne is the one move we need. He desperately needs to be found a role where he will do less damage.
ReplyDeleteAdrian Yalland has abolished the post of Home Secretary......
ReplyDeleteThe Conservatives look like they have missed the boat...they should be setting an agenda instead of not having one after a government has been a decade in power.
Maybe it is simply time for us to make our peace with Labour rather than waste time on Tory antics as they prepare for ritual slaughter at the next election ?
postpone his rehuffle until the end of this week or even next week.
ReplyDeleteOr why not half a year or longer? He hasn't managed to replace Mercer (resigned March 8!!!), but maybe Homeland Security is a bit boring for someone like Cameron.
Osborne to given sweeping new powers.
ReplyDeleteCleanliness is a good thing, but looking at Osbornes background: someone would have to teach him how to sweep.
Just papering over the cracks!(boy george)
ReplyDeleteIraq not to blame for terror raid-says Bill Hague. How would he know?
ReplyDeletePerhaps Trigger could give wee george a few lessons.
ReplyDeleteAnon 1.21 What do you mean......FALLING?
ReplyDeleteYour all doomed you know,doomed.

Bit like Guidos' only 22 posters in two days.
Up to 22 now is it?
ReplyDeleteI've just had a thought...
ReplyDeleteWhat about having one or two policies?
Do you think that might help?
I've just had a thought...
ReplyDeleteWhat about having one or two policies?
Do you think that might help?
Absolutely, but only if they are approved by Lady Thatcher.
call me dave// No!.The Labour lot will only go and attack him and where would he be then?
ReplyDeleteBest fight on no policies in order to reduce attacks to minimum.
Surprised noone thought of it before.
Anonymous @ 11:05 AM said "Thank heavens we at least have a team of experienced politicians at the helm with bombs going off"
ReplyDeleteYou must be a supporter of the Democratic Scottish Labour National Sinn Unionist Plaid Fein Cymru Party then.
Anon.(3.24)no-suggest you take more water with it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't abolished any cabinet posts - just can't think who I would rather have as home secretary!
ReplyDeleteSomeone with balls of iron and who is slightly scarrey!
Boris?
ReplyDeleteAnon @5pm: "Boris?"
ReplyDeleteHe said balls of iron, not head of iron.
"Osborne to given sweeping new powers2
ReplyDeleteYeah, give him a stiff broom. He'd be much more use with that than he is with figures.
The best thing the Tories can do for the next three months is .
ReplyDelete1. keep quiet
and
2. don't fight each other
and
3. let Gordon have his chance to piss everyone off.
I don't hold high hopes for 1 and 2 as most Conservative MPs appear to be naturally thick and not understand the modern world of politics (the hide and intelligence of rhinos?) but I do have high hopes of 3.
Anon 5.30 That's not what all those biking ladies say.
ReplyDeletemadfish if dave stays on course go nap on 1 & 2.
ReplyDeleteMADASA------Forget 3.GB can see dave swinging in the political wind
ReplyDeleteTo prove my point about Conservative MPs being dense:
ReplyDeleteMr Leigh MP has obviously learned NOTHING from 3 past defeats and instead is quoted today as saying:
"Mr Leigh, of the Cornerstone Group of right-wing Tory MPs, has said the party should appear one of "principle".
He added: "There's only one way they can go, which is the traditional Conservative way, the right policies, the progressive policies of successful countries around the world of low taxation, deregulation, strong immigration controls, strong defence and building on the social responsibility theme of [party leader] David Cameron."
Would this Cornerstone Group be the one that supports the Anglican Church and therefore by inference the Bishops of Carlisel and Liverpool on their comemments on floods.
Rearrange the words: "Dense old buggers are laughing stock and have learned nothing in 10 years out of Government except it's not long enough to teach them anything"
:-((
Is Mad-as the latest "Save Dave" initiative or is (s)he a Labour troll eager to keep Dave for obvious reasons?
ReplyDeleteThe answers in the name.
ReplyDeleteIn view of his impending trip to Africa - covered in your interesting slightly earlier thread - it doesn't look very likely that Andrew Mitchell will be accepting a move from Shadow International Development to Party Chairman in the next two weeks either, does it?
ReplyDeleteI wonder whether - a la Thorneycroft of 1975 - Cameron might consider elder statesman Rifkind to take on the role? Provided he gives serious undertaking re supporting the referendum line etc on Europe, he would add real weight to the Tory team, and with a safe London constituency, he is v well placed to see the role through up to and including the general election.
I think Ed Vaizey might be in line for promotion. He offered me an interview for my PR research project on MPs blogging which I was thrilled about. His office called on Friday to cancel and the first thought that sprung to mind was that he was going to be promoted. Just a hunch.
ReplyDeleteI have already gleaned some fascinating insights from it, btw.
Ellee: I hope so. Ed is a bright young thing, and his PR company used to be one that we had an account with. He is a great communicator and we need more people who can communicate better.
