In the left hand column you'll see a new poll I have set up to see who readers of this blog think is the best Conservative Commentator of the Year. Between now and Christmas I'll be running different End of the Year polls. Do take part!

Not sure why you've got Peter Hitchens down as a 'Conservative' which a large 'C' commentator. The bloke as a rabid right-wing reactionary with Jeremy Clarkson tendencies. He is borderline xenophobic, and the worst example of 'Daily Mail' idiocy I've seen.

How can you bear to give him space in a poll which includes urbane, witty and intelligent people like Bozza and Matthew Parris. What's that you say? This is a democracy, and he's got just as much right to be here as they have ? If only he could take on board that concept..

Fraser Nelson ? Tim Hames ? Didn't they used to be in Emmerdale Farm ?

These people may be conservatives, but do they actively work for a Conservative government at the next general election?
Tim Hames is hostile to Cameron and seves as an apologist for New Labour.
Peter Oborne fluctuates alarmingly between support for Cameron pessimism for his chances of success. Judging by his appearance on Any Questions recently, I suspect the amount of alchohol imbibed influences his opinions.
Fraser Nelson is a Scotsman and not to be trusted.
Portillo is always interesting and so is Mathew Parris. Neither sticks to the party line, but they, and we, know where their sympathies lie.
Mathew Parris by a short head.

Urrr... why haven't you included Charles Moore, Rod Liddle, Minette Marrin, or Roger Scruton?

I have just voted, but it was disallowed as it said I had already voted... and I hadn't...
Dont you like Michael Portillo, and are you trying to fix the result!

Iain you haven't made it clear whether you've listed Peter Hitchens or the other chap who writes for the Mail on Sunday - please clarify in future polls, if only to see which one would win!
