Consolation Prize for Ann Clwyd

A further sign of the shifting sands in the Labour Party is the deposing of Blair loyalist (well, on Iraq, anyway) Ann Clwyd by former Foreign Office Minister Tony Lloyd for the chairmanship of the Parliamentary Labour Party.

Still, Ann Clwyd can console herself by being called The Speaker today to ask a patsy question about Iraq, which enabled Blair to say how wonderful he thought she was. The silence in the chamber was reminiscent of tumbleweed blowing down a Tucson street.

Ann Clwyd has had strong opinions on Iraq and Saddam Hussein (remember him?) ever since she visited the Kurdish area soon after Halabjah and other suchlike events. I know it is hard to imagine that any MP can have strongly held opinions, particularly if you don't agree with them but she is not simply a Blair loyalist in this respect.

Hmm..bit of a blind spot about AC, I never had her down as a 'brown noser' but then possibly I'm biased since she is Welsh. I thought by definition they belonged to the 'awkward squad' ?

she's on sky now trying to hold Mad Tony up as a model of sanity and virtue. It makes her sound like a real whinger
