Podcast 14: Ann Widdecombe Answers Your Questions

The latest podcast is now ready for your delight and delectation. It's a 15 minute chat to Ann Widdecombe, recorded on the back seat of a Mercedes, travelling to our latest theatre evening in North Yorkshire a couple of weeks ago. Most of the podcast is taken up with Ann answering questions you submitted for me to put to her. Cranmer, Sabretache, barbara Worth and Andrew Woodman will particularly look forward to listening to it. There's also a couple of 'corpsing' moments for yours truly. Click on the icon on the right or HERE.

And listen out for Ann calling Michael Portillo a bastard! I always said she was a woman of impeccable judgment.

Cranmer is delighted to have contributed so significantly to this podcast, and is delighted by the responses... except one...

Mr Dale, you stated that I would be surprised by your views on morality and faith, which have more in common with the dogmatic absolutism of the Pope than with the compromising obfuscation of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Ms Widdecombe agrees with me that one would search in vain for evidence of your pronouncements, why is this?

Dear Ian

Interessant und entertaining

Unlike Ann, I wish I could sensibly claim never to have regretted anything I'd said publicly since 1997

Contrariwise, if I were to be paid £5 for every infelicitous observation, I could afford to live in a much grander house and to employ you (& Guido) to run my own blog

Presumably if I had the stature of Cruella, I would be charging $70,000 instead of a modest and nominal £5

Listening to Ann, one cannot help but be staggered that most Tory members are over 72 in age.

Well she answered my question so I have posted a response here.

Do please point it out to her. I don't exactly call her a liar but she is challenged to provide information about the assertion that her parents hunted which, in any meaningful sense, I simply don't believe - and have said so. I look forward to receiving the writ.

Why has she got Elton John's hair on?

Ian, has anybody ever said that you and Rick Stein sound like one and the same person?

Forgive me, I am not up on these things, but why exactly do you think that ex-MP Michael Portillo warrants being called a bastard?

Stop laughing Iain! Stop! Hilarious again!

Cranmer, If I were religious which I'm not, I would certianly be more of a Catholic than a worshipper at the altar of the Archbishop of Canterbury. At least Catholics still believe in something, whereas the C of E (into which I was confirmed) has abandoned all principle and belief in theology - maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean.

Anonymous, many people of agreed with you on the similarity between my voice and Rick Stein's. It can;t be anything to do with seafood as I don't eat fish!

Chris, where do I start. Just watch him on This Week and you'll see him diss the Tory Party most weeks. That's why many Tories think he's a bastard. John major was ahead of his time.

Dear Cranmer

Thou wilt recall that, before your Bearde got singed, thou didst a marvellous & eloquent jobbe in defending Christianitie against Papistrie

Come backe ... all is forgiven ... do thy theologicalle stuffe now - we need you to stand up against all these sub-Christian C of E Ecclesiarchs ....

Mr Anonymous,

Cranmer thanks you for the vote of confidence.

In truth, the same demons are still about, though the age has become ultra-PC, multifaith and ecumenical. My blog has become my pulpit because Cranmer can now say nothing in church without offending someone over something. Unfortunately, there was no blogging in the 16th century, or the stake might have been avoided through anonymity.

Without his blog, there is no possibility that Cranmer would get away with his latest comments on Islam, or those on the interfering cardinals...
