Scotland's Andy Murray came of age this evening, when he thumped Andy Roddick in straight sets. He showed the heart, courage and commitment Sven Goran Eriksson so sadly lacks. Scotland can be proud of their new sporting hero today. As indeed can the rest of the United Kingdom.

I think England can be proud of their team as well though
He does look a wee bit gangly and dare I say it, gormless, but he's a class act and makes my Scots half very proud . My English half however is very very sad indeed.

Yes I won't be supporting Mr Murray after his comments about the England team. In fact I hope he loses as soon as possible to ANYONE.
Would you have referred to 'England's' Tim Henman, if he had been the one achieving similar success!? Why are Scottish sports people identified with their separate country, but English competitors are always 'British'? (And I write as someone who is half-Scottish & half-English, but who is cheering him on as a fellow-Brit!).
He did play brilliantly, and made some very magnanimous comments about the football loss afterwards, which made up for his previous mis-judged ones.
That's like blaming a Greek for being swarthy.
Remember to annoy the Scottish by referring to Murray as British until he loses, when he becomes Scottish.
He is a miserable c**t, but with returns like the one's he displayed today, who cares!! Henman's big problem was that he cracked when the pressure got hot... that's when your returns go pants.
I really liked Murray for staying a good 10mins to sign autographs afterwards.

I agree with your points, David. Indeed, I suspect most English football fans favoured a Northern Irish manager, Martin O'Neill rather than the Englishman McLaren (although we all wish him well).
Oh and what another surprise. When it can no longer be an English voctory its grab onto the nearest successful Jock, Taff or Billy/Paddy and say your now British.

Maybe this is shooting the messenger but please can you stop scratching this scab. Along with most Brits I would support any of the Home Nations ahead of other football teams. In tennis the national team is British so I will unquestionably support Murray. I know what Murray said, but can we not just ignore that. Does supporting him need to be turned into a political question.
Hope Miserable Murray loses bigtime.

If he wins Wimbledon he will have to pay the same amount of tax into the Exchequer... so I hope he wins so he can get taxed for it!
