Fraser Nelson in this week's Spectator believes Peter Hain will be the next Cabinet Minister to betray Tony Blair. He quotes an exchange between the two of them at the time of the last reshuffle, when Blair told Hain he couldn't promote him, despite having promised to do so before.
BLAIR: You'll get your move next time.
HAIN: There won't be a next time under you.
And doesn't that sum up how the PM has lost his authority? Hain would never have said that if he hadn't known Blair was on the way out.

Iain, no need to post this but your typing's falling apart, mate...
"old Hain he couldn;t promote him" in this post and "should you bot want to watch Italy v Ukraine" on the previous one.
Thanks for this site, by the way, I think it's great.
womble, ta for the alert. As my mother always saysd, more haste less speed!. All corrected now.
How did blair win his latest election again? He not only has no credibility with the people, but he has none with his party and his direct constituents and employees... he's done nothing for education, nothing for health care, and he's pushed the population into an unpopular and disasterous war. Again, why was he reelected?
Comment from Dale - am really hoping that's irony! :D
That reminds me of this article in the Telegraph a just over couple of weeks ago.
While the MPs launched their attacks, Peter Hain, the Welsh Secretary, was said to have stood embarrassingly silent on the sidelines.
Is this not the time to re-invigorate the impeachment campaign?
Your kite first flown at 1600h, and at 1800h BBC website reports "Peter Hain has broken rank with the Cabinet to express doubts about building new nuclear power stations. "
Hat-tip (as I believe the expression goes).
'Oh so Vain' will do whats best for himself!
