I gather that Vera Baird, the Minister at the Department of Constitutional Affairs, has just written to the Lorde Chancellor making a humiliating apology for her comments on sentencing. The Lord Chancellor says that's the end of the matter. Hmmmm. I wonder...

Why doesn't Vera Baird apologise to the public for some of the daft comments she has made before - or don't QCs do the apology bit ?
