Your Political Profile:

This what a bit of a relief! Mind you, it is an American test so bear in mind their understanding of the term 'liberal' is a little different to ours.

  4. I got 20% Conservative, 80% Liberal but I reckon its mainly because I was anti war, anti guns, and pro choice.

  6. I was mildly surprised by my result coming out 50/50 on personal responsibility, as I'm very pro taking on your own responsibility and more small government not interfering with people's private lives. Must be related to it's American leanings. Anyhow, my results:

    Overall: 70% Conservative, 30% Liberal
Social Issues: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Obviously there is a problem with false dichotomies is these kinds of survey. Question 4 for example is about education, but most US conservatives would probably agree with both 'revoking No Child Left Behind' and 'introduce a Voucher System.

  9. Hmm - 65-35 in favour of Conservative.

It's a daft quiz, though - both answers to question two are probably correct, question 8 is true by definition (have everybody toss a coin a finite number of times, and they wont all get the same number of heads), both answers to question 19 are right, neither answer to question 20 comes close to my view, and several of the questions conflate "what should happen" with "what should the government do".

Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

...perhaps a bit dry on fiscal issues, but overall about right.

  11. How did you get your results? Nothing worked for me. Nothing came up.

  12. 55% Conservative for me.

Just goes to show that if the Americans keep asking themselves the same daft questions they'll never get the right answers.

  13. 100% on everything. Quite proud of that actually, though sometimes the options were limited, and I wanted to choose something else. I have always considered myself a liberal in the true sense of the word, but I guess I should have no part of a society where law abiding citizens are not allowed to keep guns, yet others can butcher their unborn babies. Yeh choice that'll be it...

  15. Forgive me for not getting the point but which 'social issue' is it that Tories are claiming some sort of relationship to.
If it was 'zero'it would be nearer the mark but that is probably me being ignorant.
Having said that, the Tories have come last in the last three elections.
Dave riding a bike with a solar panel is very 1980's Labour and we can do that stuff in our sleep.
So no more lies and fibs please.

  17. Peter: Now you know why you have lost three elections on the trot, 100% guaranteed!!

Let me try and convince you, as a 100% (guaranteed) winner, that you are out of touch with reality.

YOU HAVE NO POLICIES TO BACK UP THE ONCE GREAT TORY PARTY!!

Trust me, Peter, you are on a hiding to nothing and Davey Cameron is a loser waiting to happen.100% certainty.

I love breaking bad news to Tories, it's good for my soul.

  18. Though perhaps, "Gary", the antics that fill the pages of our little red book mean that we are not interested in any lessons you are dishing out. As for you being a guaranteed winner...let`s leave that for the British people to decide...you remember like they did with Lady T...three times wasn`t it. Bye bye Tony, bye bye New Labour.

  19. Lesson not learned then Michael?
Oh well, as you say, leave it at that.
That is the one big criticism I always get of the Tories;they never listened or listen.
Adam Rickett is your saviour, if you insist, then so be it.

  20. Gary - glad you find the past such a comfort.

Personally,I find the pictures of John Prescott "giving dictation" to his secretary, and last week's croquet party cheer me up no end.

Then we have Mrs. Blair's tasteful autographing and auctioning the Hutton Report........what a winner for Party funds.

Nothing like showing the Labour Party in its true light, is there?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jafo, is it the past or the present you want to ponder? I'm for either.

David Cameron who wrote and therefore lost an election based upon his thoughts.
Today cameron ("call me Dave") thinks differently.
He is Mr. nice guy with nothing written at all. He sledges, rides, plants trees and has a solar panel.
Rule of thumb says that to scratch Cameron and you'll get a Tory.
All I have to do is wait until he writes his manifesto.
I will personally ruin his career.
    yours

  22. Gary, David Cameron is the man who isn't currently sponging off an Italian Prince for his holidays - like "call me Tony".
David Cameron is the man with a wife who didn't take so much money from a children's cancer charity that the charity virtually collapsed, who didn't autograph a offical enquiry into a decent man's suicide and auction it for Party funds..........
I won't go on as the "Little Red Book of Labour Sleaze" has already done it far better.

You are supporting a failing regime, rotten to the core.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Note: The last thing a Labour politician said anything worth listening to was something about being "whiter than white". Why take a lesson from a bunch of liars?

So Cameron singlehandedly lost the last election? Hardly. Do you really think most of the electorate base their votes on policy? Get real.

Yes you seem to have a high opinion of yourself. I am not really favour of a lot of what Dave has done, BUT. You have to say that he looks heavily odds on to win the next election(bye bye Labour!). If you are such a genius then maybe it is time you did something?

As for the lack of policy. Well after nine years of taskforces, talks with the public and Royal Commissions, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones(ask John Prescott to explain to you, if he can muster the English between his heavy workload).

    ReplyDelete
  24. My guess is that Jafo and co haven't got a clue why they lost the last election.
If Tony is the war mongering liar that he is who charges kiddies tuition fees why did he win and honest" call me Dave"(author) lose?

Simple, most people didn't necessarily believe Tony, but they certainly believed "Dave".

Please not: "you put in £5000 and I'll put in £5000 and I'll move you (little old lady) up the NHS painful list".(Mick and Dave's Tories.)
Consequently, poor little old Lady stays where she is!
    You lost the Election.
Blair has doubled NHS spend.Employed 85,000 nurses, 10,500 consultants and 1500 Doctors.Job done.
    You can't beat this record.
    Gary

    ReplyDelete
  25. I will keep it simple for you Gary.

    1. Dave wasn't leader. I suspect 90% of the public wouldn't have recognised him before the last election.

    2. If Dave is so unpopular, why are the Tories ahead on the NHS in the YouGov polls for the first time in a generation?

    3. Yes we lost the election. Big deal Gary. You lost FOUR in a row, and never beat Thatcher.

    4. Yes Blair has increased spending on the NHS by more than anyone else. Why do the public seem to think that it is crap?

    5. "Job done?!". Can you use that as a slogan in the next General Election? I am sure the people who have been attacked by foreign criminals will love that(!). Perhaps it is this kind of arrogance that got you stuffed in the recent local elections? You remember your worst result for 40 years? And if you continue to be smug the British will wipe the smile of your faces. As David Steel should have said..."go back to your constituencies and prepare for opposition"...Labour's natural position if History means anything.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Michael Oakshot doesn't seem to know the difference between a local election and a General one.
    Let me explain.
You will fail at the next GE simply because you did not install David Davis.
There is a possibility that even he would not have won the next one due to big Gordon, but who knows.

"Dave" is talking the biggest suicide not that the Tories have ever undertaken. This man, along with George Osborne are a couple of tory toffs and everyone knows it.
His campaigning to date, is an apology to the Country and the wider Tory party for the way he reduced you to tatters. You are out for the next ten simply because of "Dave". Davis dropped no bollocks and is clean. You failed to notice and give credit.
The NHS is a runaway success story but many nurses(for instance) do not know it. Our fault entirely. Easily put right.
The Daily Mail Group played the BNP card and won all over the Country with their local rag sheets. Not to worry, it's being dealt with.
    Gary

  27. Bizarre. You don't really seem to understand the problems you have. Am quite clear about the difference between local and nation. Your showing last month was the worst LOCAL result for 40 years, and things have hardly improved since.

Big Gordon?! And the English are going to rally to being governed by a Scot, under the present constitution settlement?! All of the polling shows the Dour One compares badly with Princess Tony, and that before he will be associated with Iraq, the Home Office and the other catastrophies of this Government.

Dave and Osbourne are toffs? So they are disqualified from holding office by their births? I believe this is called inverted snobbery. If they are not disqualified, then what precisely is the point of your rather strange statement?

Dave's campaigning to date could be described as many things. I have been disappointed with parts of it myself. But how could it be a suicide note when he hasn't actually mentioned policy? Rather clutching at straws here I think.

You seem to be under the impression Dave wielded some sort of power before the last election. He has only been an MP since 2001, and if you seriously think he had a huge say in Tory policy before becoming Leader then you don't have a clue what you are talking about. And even if he did - didn't the Tories get more votes in England than Labour. Yes what a comprehensive rejection by the electorate that was.

"The NHS is a runaway success"?! Are you Tessa Jowell in disguise?! How patronising to say that nurses don't know it. They work in it day in day out. They might know a thing or two. It seems to be the people who have most dealing with the NHS who realise its ineptness. Easily put right?! Well it is so easy Gary that nobody has actually thought of doing it!

And the mess with the Home Office. Yes the Daily Mail Group really caused that didn't it(!). It's being dealt with? Big talk for someone who seems to be detached from the reality of what is happening in the country. Maybe the public would be more interested if Blair and the others were "dealing with" the hundreds of criminals they let roam the streets of Britain.

Speaking with the likes of you Gary makes me realise how out of touch the Government is. You don't seem to have a clue. And the public appear, by all indications, to be ready to kick your backsides out of no.10. And who can blame them?

The Daily Mail Group played the BNP card and won all over the Country with their local rag sheets. Not to worry, it's being dealt with.

  28. Michael, why don't you run one of those polls that you so like and just see what nurses actually do know.
If you think that "Dave" can plant trees and ride bikes better than some hardened leftie, then be my guest. It just won't work.
olitics all over the world is stuck in the central lane. It took a court order to install Bush.
GB politics has been here since 1975 and Thatcher/Major were ousted due to right wing loonies.
Blair knew and knows that the centre is where its at.Clever man.
Charlie Kennedy took the Libs to the left of Labour and had some success to his credit. They've gone back now.
So if "Dave" wants to play left wing politics, you can be guaranteed that you are invited to your own funeral.
Plan B is to prove that Cameron is a right winger to the core and his hand is about to be 'forced' and the pair of them exposed.
Whats this I hear that William is lining you lot up with women haters in the EU? I hope this is true.

  29. Gary I can't be bothered debating this with you any more because you seem to make random sweeping generalisations without evidence or specific point. Just one point. Your analysis of America politics is a million miles off. There is no centre in the US(read The Right Nation by John Micklethwait and Adrian Wooldridge - themselvers not of the right persuasion). The 2000 election may have been close. By by being more right wing in 2004, Bush mobilised 4 million more voters of the right. A moral that has been noted by most serious commentators. The results of the last two US elections do not show floating voters, but a fairly even split between left and right(though thankfully the right side won both times, if you will pardon the pun).
