Back at Politico's
I'm back at work today after about 6 weeks away from the office. I suppose I can be forgiven for the odd melancholy thought about the new MPs going through their induction today in the Commons. However, I don't have too much time to dwell on what might have been as I have an abolsute mountainous intray to wade through. Mostly invoices, unfortunately.

This article in The Guardian mentions North Norfolk:
Secret Tory fund helped win marginals
Is it true ?
Yes but it wasn't secret - all above board and the facts published by the Electoral Commission. The Lib Dems did use it to accuse the Tories of trying to "buy back" North Norfolk - harsh but not unfair - so whether it helped Iain on balance I do not know.
Indeed it was not secret - all properly declared with the Electoral Commission. The LibDems also received donations from business. Nothing wrong with that at all.
What is questionable was the motives of Lord Ashcroft in funding Conservtive candidates in marginal seats and by all accounts bi-passing the national Conservative Party to do it. Why would anyone want to do that? And was Lord Satchi happy with that situation? Was it entirely altruistic and if it was how do we know?
