Now here's a question. If Gordon Brown thinks that people who ask about immigration from Eastern Europe are, by definition, 'bigoted', what does he think of Ian Davidson, his candidate (and former MP) in Glasgow SW who wants EU immigration curtailed? (see graphic above).
Is he a 'bigot' too? If so, should he be removed as a Labour candidate?
Hattip for graphic Leaves on the Line
Mrs Duffy also said - according to the BBC, anyway - that Rochdale was starting to look like a third world country. Would any Tory candidate who said that be allowed to stay in place for long? And if not, why not?
ReplyDeleteBrown was stupid, admittedly, not to treat every microphone as potentially live and dangerous, but when it comes to the catalogue of reasons not to vote for New Labour, surely this is pretty low on the list?
It no longer matters what Gordon thinks of anything, does it? He's toast. Stick a fork in him. He's done...
ReplyDeleteUnemployment down? Yeah. Right! A pound gets you a penny that all the 'jobs' are in some central or local government or quangoista (non) job creation scheme. And all at the expense of 1.5 private sector wealth creating jobs elsewhere in New Labour's La La land.
ReplyDeleteGlasgow East? Advert says Glasgow South-west. Paid for by us from the Communications Allowance...
ReplyDeleteBy the way,Ian Davidson didn't mean it, it was someone else who wrote it, blah ,blah.
Jesus! How many times do I have to pass on the views of Sir Robin Walews, Labour Mayor of a flagship Labour Borough (Newham):
ReplyDelete"Over the past decade immigration was used as a short-term solution to labour shortages. Although there were people at the bottom of society who could have filled many of the jobs, given the right support, it was easier to bring in skilled and motivated workers from abroad.
As a result thousands of long-term unemployed were left languishing on benefits. This was a tragic mistake. Immigration must not be used as a substitute for tackling long-term social problems such as worklessness, instead of providing opportunities to people who are already here."
[taken from his Christmas message in the Newham Recorder]
Here's the election leaflet sent by Ben Bradshaw to his constituents in Exeter which claims as one of his achievement "Immigration into city is decreasing"

Mrs Duffy merely asked, "where are all these East Europeans coming from?". Perhaps not very eloquently put, but she was obviously wanting Gordon to explain why Rochdale has so many East Europeans living there. I guess that many people could be asking the same question throughout the UK and politicians like to side step the question. The fact is that any EU citizen may travel freely throughout the EU and live wherever they like. Working in another EU country is down to local regulations and social benefits are also country specific. It is my opinion that far more East Europeans have come to, and stayed put, in the UK than official "estimates" suggest. Far too many are soaking up public services having contributed bugger all to the economy. What really needs to be done is to stop the free movement of people in Europe and reconfigure proper border control, but politicians are somehow too frightened to admit the problem exists.
ReplyDeleteJust noticed the typo on my 5:27 comment: It's Sir Robin WALES (comedy mayor of Newham)
