Meanwhile, Back With Mrs Robinson...

Iris Robinson is in even more trouble tonight. This is the front page of tomorrow's Sunday Tribune. It alleges she had an affair with Kirk McCambley's father and another DUP member. Politics.ie reports...

Tomorrow’s Sunday’s Tribune has explosives details on the Iris Robinson affair *or * more properly affairs. Link to follow when their site is updated.

As well as describing the incredible fury and deep sadness that the Rev Ian Paisley has felt for the damage caused to the DUP following the revelations of the week, the real shock in the piece comes when the Sunday Tribune reveals that Mrs Robinson has had more affairs in the past.

Suzanne Breen writes:

Meanwhile, it emerged this weekend that Iris Robinson also had an affair with 19 year-old Kirk McCambley’s father, a butcher who died of cancer. She had another affair with a fellow DUP member in the 1980’s which was witnessed by the security forces.

Further on in the piece:

Iris Robinson’s affair with Kirk McCambley isn’t her first. She had an affair with a fellow DUP member in the 1980.

It was witnessed by security force members voluntarily guarding the Robinsons’ home after the RUC officially withdrew protection over Peter Robinson’s loyalist invasion into Clontibret.

For your information, the Invasion of Clontibret was took place in 1986. Shocking allegations and surely not the end!

  1. Are we allowed to use the word Slapper, on your blog Iain?

  3. I wonder if Paisley's fury is because she never propositioned HIM...

The affair with McCambley Snr was obvious, given that all the quotes were about HER deep friendship with him, not THEIR (Mr and Mrs Robinson) deep friendship with him. Does anyone know what happened to Mrs McCambley?

  4. and does anyone still have sympathy for this slattern? The hell fire and damnation act was probably just that - an act to gain votes.

  5. The more interesting aspect might be exactly why security forces were providing "security" on their own time. Given Robinson's links to loyalist paramilitaries, especially during this period, that may be the shoe yet to drop.

  6. The image of Paisley being 'beyond fury' is wonderfully apocalyptic. I can only begin to imagine the lightning playing around his craggy head, the miasmatic clouds, the shivering, fissured earth, the tsunamis ...

  7. You can certainly use the word 'slapper' if you wish, and its male equivalent. But, of course, there isn't one, so you can't.

Also, do you really think that sleeping with 4 different people in the space of several decades counts as promiscuity? If so, I can only assume that you don't get out much.

  8. I'm trying hard to get excited by this story. But it lacks any real edge other than in a few small towns in Ulster.

After the Tiger Woods saga, this is all very down market.

  9. Mr Dodds is favourite at 6-5, followed in the betting by East Antrim MP Sammy Wilson at 9-4 and Edwin Poots at 3-1.

Outsiders include Robin Newton at 10-1, Jeffrey Donaldson and Nelson McCausland at 12-1 and Arlene Foster at 16-1.

Paddy Power is offering odds of 1-2 that a new First Minister will be in place before the end of the year and 6-4 against.

True. After all it's not like there's any chance of a hung parliament is there?

  11. Jimmy, all NI MPs who would accept it were provided with 24h support and protection in the 1980s.

Not another crap non-intervention from Jo...

  12. This story is being used by the BBC to avoid much mention of Peter Watt.

David Cameron will be grateful if Brown survives. Maybe the BBC are now working for the Tories!!!

  13. Never mind, Iris can still look forward to the royalties from this line of merchandise that's been named after her.

    Well, lets start off with

1 First Minsiter's wife accepts 'gifts' of £50k from developers at least one of whm she is lobbying for.

2 She takes a £5k cash kickback and gives the rest to her 19 year old lover

3 the Lover has just got the catering contract for a lucrative little bar and restaurant in a major tourist area

4 the First Minister's wife sits on the Counil that awarded the contract. He was the only tenderer who 'met all the conditions'. She didn't declare an interest

5 the venue had been restored at significnat expense with public money by the Counil and other public bodies and the First Minister's wife spotted this as a 'great business opportunity'

6 when the affair went sour she allegedly immediately demanded the money back specifying that £20k was to be paid to her and another £25k to a church where the First Minister's sister is the pastor

6 wehn the First Minister found out he allegedly told her to pay the money back to the developers she borrowed it from, but didn't declare any of this or make sure that she had declared it

7 when the story leaked they announded that the First Minister's wife was retiring from politics for health reasons and said she had attempted suicide after a breakdown. It was hinted that the breakdown was caused by the shame of the affair

8 The media now allege that, in fact, this was just one of a series of affairs going back perhaps 25 years including one with a DUP colleague. The BBC now allege that on the night she took an overdose of tablets, the First Minister took medical advice but did not call an ambulance. Next morning he went to work and left his SpAd and the GP to call an ambiulance and have her admitted to hospital. The First Minister says this isnt fair as the advice to him during the night was that this was not necessary despite the overdose.

9 The First Minister now looks finsihed politically. He's crppled in terms of concluding a deal with Sinn Fein

10 because of the lack of a deal with SF, it's probable the Assembly will collapse next week triggering an election

11 this affair has so damaged DUP support that its likely they will suffer heavily in that election and SF will emerge as the largest party leading to Martin McGuinness as First Minister

12 no Unionist will serve in an administration on that basis so the Assemebly could be finished

13 that means the unwinding of the peace process as, at the moment, there's no plan B.

14 This all comes just at a point where the dissidents are consolidating and mounting more attacks.

This will leave a huge problem politically and in terms of escalating terrorism for an incoming Tory Governmnet. You would be naiive to assume that that terrorism will be confined to Ireland

If the Assembly collapses Woodward is required to hold an election within 6 weeks. That's a very short time to sort out a mess preciptated by the love of money and an inability to keep one's knickers on.

    Events dear boy. Events.

  17. Didn't she say that God guided her every move?

If indeed he did, he sounds an awful lot more fun than the God I learned about at school.

I think she may have been lying though, when she said that.

She seems to ahve made a bit of a habit of that!

"This is all very down market" ?? You dont know Northern Ireland? which is extremely conservative and religious etc. And the Peace Process might well collapse and then what we are back to the good old days of "The Troubles" Does anybody want that. I for one do not

  19. Note: rumours, no more, but persisting, across NI of "battered wife" syndrome.

Yeah: an unworthy post. I'll make up for it at a later date.

Will you still say that when they start bombing London and Manchester again?

And which other bits of the UK are 'none of your business'?

  21. Now which DUP member could that be? hm......;-)

Will he have to go to?

  23. Stephen Nolan has just found out that Iris Robinson is in a Belfast hospital for acute psychatric treatment.

    Lets hope she is ok.

  24. No doubt Ian Paisley, as a Christian man and a pastor, will follow the teachings of Christ and forgive Mrs Robinson? If not, this will tell us all we ever suspected about Dr. Paisley was, sadly, true. Not really a Christian.
