"With the Robinson debacle, Conservatives and Unionists are poised to take Iris's seat in Strangford. Even before this there is evidence of a collapse in the DUP vote which will result in further gains."
OK, as an aspirant UUP Parliamentarian (she's the candidate in Lagan Valley), Mrs Trimble would say that, wouldn't she? But it's not beyond the realms of possibility. Here are the results from the last two election...
Boundary changes reduce the majority by 2,000 to a notional 11,195. By English standards that would seem a mountain to climb, but it is not unusual in Northern Ireland for such huge swings to happen, especially in the current circumstances.
Strangford UUP/Conservatives are selecting their candidate at the moment. Depending on who they choose, it could be a very interesting fight indeed.

Could Strangford be the first TUV seat?
ReplyDeleteNo! Not from such a poor vote last time round. I feel that DUP will hold it, if it is called before the General Election, with a reduced majority. They will have no problem holding it at a General Election. Forget the rules that apply to English elections, it's Tribal not Trimble in Ulster
