Really good news. I for one will be listening. Great to see the growth in political talk radio that you blogged about a few days ago. Good luck, Iain!

I am so going to call in with a silly voice and wind you up!
ReplyDeleteWill a podcast be provided? I am sure many will like to listen who can't be in front of their computers at this time.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting this gig.
ReplyDeleteLooking through list of presenters, slightly concerned about Simon Darby (BNP) being on there.
Have you actually done some research on this station. I'm not saying someone shouldn't have a right to express their views but surely you don't want to be associating yourself with, well.....
I'm curious to know how this will run? You're using your name in the title, so I'm guessing that you'll be able to express your own opinions freely.
ReplyDeleteThis will be more George Galloway than David Dimbleby (hopefully!).
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I will call up!
To conceal my idenity I might disguise myself with a German accent and talk about hygenic toilets!!!!
El-Gordo: The Fat One, has set my Blog on fire when he has not got flying mobile phones!

Rahul, I am more worried about being associated with the Wrestling Show which precedes me on the 8th! Seriously, you either believe in free speech or you don't. My view is that we have to take the BNP on and not pretend that they don't exist. It doesn't worry me at all that this person has a show on the same platform. Just because we both have shows does not mean we therefore support each other's views.
ReplyDeleteDavid Anthony, they want me to be opinionated and argue on air with callers etc. Not sure the exact format yet - am working on it. All ideas welcome!
Erm...ideas...make it as different as possible from LabourList...that would be a pretty good start.
ReplyDeleteIf you can, please email me any press releases and I'll place them on my websites, Iain.
ReplyDeleteDon't you think there are already too many of these opinionated people on radio and tv?
ReplyDeleteIf all you want to do is hear your own voice, you can do that sat on the toilet or in the bath.
Perhaps, Tim Ireland will call in and give you a hard time. Somebody needs to.
The bigger they are the harder they fall. Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand spring to mind.
I have no time for the opinionated presenters like John Gaunt, Stephen Nolan, Jeremy Whine, and James Whale.
Michael Parkinson and John Humphrys are more my style. You appear to be going on a downward spiral since 18DS.
Maybe Iain has thoughts on this.
ReplyDeleteI've just read this and wondered if purnell could be in trouble here.
The filthy rental home vacated by cabinet minister James Purnell... and the £1,600 cleaning bill paid by taxpayers
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1173769/Revealed-The-filthy-rental-home-vacated-James-Purnell--1-600-cleaning-paid-taxpayers.html
2 Things strike me here :
1 : he also claimed a total of £586 for repairs on the flat. Can you legally claim on expenses money for criminal damage because if the apartment was a rental, then repairs would have be done by the landlord unless its wilful neglect.
2 : £1,600 cleaning bill paid by taxpayers due again to wilful damage by the MP and by the breaking of contract, the deposit would also be taxpayers money , no doubt. Is this allowed to claim money back from taxpayers for criminal damage?
I'm disappointed that you haven't gone with the suggested title of:
ReplyDeleteIain Dale's Diary Ear
...it has a certain ring to it!
Topic:
ReplyDeleteThe freedoms being removed by the Ruling Class protect everyone, not just heretics such as the British National Party.
To what extent would such a facility as a phone/email database be used to harass or intimidate the population from having anything to do with the British National Party, either as members, supporters or voters?
Which groups would be next?
In “A Man For All Seasons” Paul Scofield, playing Sir Thomas More discusses whether to Give The Devil Benefit Of Law (2:20 in) Or in text:
William Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!
Sir Thomas More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
William Roper: Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!
Sir Thomas More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!
Don't tell Jacqui, she will get you banned from travelling
ReplyDelete"They want me to be opinionated and argue on air with callers etc. All ideas welcome!"
ReplyDeleteYou want argument ? Just start praising Cliff !
Seriously, I can see you involved in deep discussions, but argument is not your style. I have bridled on your behalf re some of the attacks on you from other presenters, and admired your steely determination not to lose your rag.
Even when you say you did lose it the other week, you seemed amazingly chilled while doing so.
Alan Douglas
I reckon 2 or 3 tracks that are themed to political climate in the nation during the week might work.
ReplyDeleteWhen Can Brown Begin by Jimmy Webb
Piggies by the Beatles
Speak Low, Sinatra and others
Everybody's talkin' Harry Nilsson
Money's too tight to mention, Simply Red
Let me know if you need any more ideas.
I'm sure this week's broadcast will be colourful!
ReplyDeleteI've purloined your radio image and player and plonked it in my sidebar. If that's not OK, please tell me. :)
How about discussing performance related pay for MPs?
