Those of us of a certain age will recall many happy election nights watching Mrs T, Norman T and Cecil P waving out the window of this fine building. It is 32 Smith Square, formerly Conservative Central Office. The lease has recently been bought by the European Commission (I feel nauseous) and today I found out they plan to rename it Europa House [convulsions start].
Perhaps Lady Thatcher might be persuaded to visit and put a handkerchief over the new plaque... The Commission has today put out the refurbishment contract for a whopping 5.2 million Euros. Completion is envisaged for early June 2010. I didn't realise the Conservatives had left it in such a state. Perhaps they already had an inkling of who would be taking it over...
UPDATE: The Taxpayers Alliance has discovered that the Commission got the tender document wrong and had to resubmit it. They forgot Britain wasn't in the euro.
Torch it.

That building is horrible!
ReplyDeleteThe whole sewage system is totally decrepide and stank to high heaven at times when more staff were employed around elections.
Nevermind election victories it needs blowing up! I always wondered what big party donors thought when they went into the loo's and it stank of Tuna Diarrhea! I was always worried someone might think it was me as you tend to think it was the last person in their that made the mess (Plus stench).
I don't eat fish by the way but someone did!
One word. Irony.
ReplyDelete"That building is horrible!

Europa House seems kind of appropriate then ....
O/T is it true that the German nickname for Gordon is Rotzfresser?
ReplyDeleteI know fressen means to scoff/gobble. I can guess what Rotz means.
Why the bloody hell do the oligarchs need swanky offices in Londonistan? Is this going on in every European capital?
ReplyDeleteI wish someone would just come over and rob my house, fleece my bank account and kick me senseless so at least I could rebuild - but this constant and incremental abuse is starting to affect energy levels.
Why work when it just gets spunked or burnt by idiots? Seriously, what's the point?
The EUSSR commissars now have a place to hang their flag, a place from which to exert their growing colonial power of the UK, this is their 'westminster' this is the new seat of real authority, the old Westminster will take instructions from and be run from this place.
ReplyDeleteThe UK is being handed over to foreigners, these foreigners will use their powers given to them by parliament to further the conquest of the UK.
Behold your new Westminster, cast your eyes on the new seat of real power, we never gave our permission for the new colonialists to take over our nation, we were never given a referendum or choice in the matter and yet the new colonial masters now have a place from which to complete their takeover!
The place from which we are to be ruled will be off limits to the British people, there will be no democratic accountability in that place, no unauthorised eyes will ever see inside those corridors of power, the new Westminster will be a secret place, a new forbidden city, a new palace for the euro elite to swagger and plot and rule over the voiceless masses.
Behold your new masters of the post democratic era, behold its new streamlined supreme authority, no messy democracy, no confusion, no debate, no dissent, no denial!
Behold what your old elected masters have done, they will forever enjoy the fruits of their betrayal, their thirty pieces of silver is the promise of perpetual power UNDER the supreme authority of the new EUSSR, the masses had no say and now the masses will never have any say in anything ever again!
Behold your terrible new masters of the post democratic age, kneel and pay homage, bend your knee to your new masters.
Hope Dave & Co. left a few booby traps around the place!
ReplyDeleteCassandra, you're more of a "cup half empty" kind of gal aren't you?
ReplyDeleteWhat Miss Cassandra said, with bells on!
ReplyDeleteWithout accountability, there is no democracy!
It's a lot to pay for an exorcism.
ReplyDeleteStockwellian,
ReplyDeleteI am an optimist with a realists sceptical instincts, I see the end game and it stinks to high heaven, those who have always dreamed of a federal europe controlled and run along Napoleonic lines are closer than ever to having their fiendish vision come to life.
The dream of a united europe has been the goal, a greater europe run by a central beaurocracy that bears a striking resemblance to the dreams of Napolean/Bismark/Wilhelm/Hitler only the location of the capital city differed while the actual political structure is very similar.
The new euro commissars have always known that to conquer europe fully then the UK must be taken over and dominated, the greater european reich/republic dream has always been sabotaged by Great Britain, how many times has the dream of a greater single identity europe been destroyed by Great Britain?
Thats why we are hated by the euro federalists, we have been the fly in their ointment for centuries, now they have realised that to conquer the British nation they have to buy off and bribe our elected leaders into giving away our sovreignty, by stealth and deception as old as the ancient Chinese book 'the art of war' they are taking us over, the end game is a new USSR, the end game is the dream of a new soviet empire.
The dream of a united europe is a nightmare to me and I suspect many others too, freedoms will be stolen and rights taken away, the 'greater good' excuse will be used as it has been used by dictators down the centuries but the fact remains that an imposed federal state will be a disaster for us all.
Remember that analogy of the train so beloved of the eeurophiles?
The train is leaving and shouldnt we be on it they cried about maastricht, they told us that we would be left behind and the new europe would power ahead into a new age without us, we took the train believing that it would take us to a new eden, in actual fact the train as always has taken us to a very different place!
I wonder who they will award the refurb contract to...
ReplyDeleteDoh!
Dear Miss Cassanda,
ReplyDelete"The train is leaving and shouldnt we be on it they cried about maastricht, they told us that we would be left behind and the new europe would power ahead into a new age without us, we took the train believing that it would take us to a new Eden"
No, we didn't. We were bundled into the baggage car, blindfolded by self-regarding political ambition, kneecapped by deceit and wrapped in the chains of presumed [we-know-it's-not-true-really] consent.
If this country is ever to rise again from its knees, leaving the EU is the first, and prerequisite, step.
an ex apprentice,
ReplyDeleteI stand corrected and fully agree with your correction.
Cassanda, very well said.
ReplyDeleteI see Merkel wants Gordon as head of the IMF. I thought she was supposed to be smart ?
Old story.
ReplyDeleteSo far, the only surprise is that it hasn't already been renamed David Cameron House.
ReplyDeleteOf course one knows intellectually about the rampant foaming-at-the-mouth, xenophobic anti-Europeanism in today’s Conservative party. But notwithstanding, it’s as well to be reminded of its true silliness from time to time.
ReplyDeleteWow, its like Rome levelling Carthage...
ReplyDeleteDear Mr? Gardner,
ReplyDeleteMind you don't fall off that perch, sweetiepie, it's a long way down from such heights of condescending intellectual superiority.
Simon - err.. eh?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the Tories are so in the black because they flogged CCHQ for about £20 million a couple of years back.
Sooooo - the EU commission (where are they based now and why such swanky offices in London?) have bought it and are now chucking 5 million Eurrors at it.
Bit of depreciation in current climate but that's at least £20 million nicker plus for an outpost.
I don't think it's xenophobic to wonder why such money should be thrown against the wall. Are we up to 27 states now? So, let's assume that Paris & Rome are almost as pricey and then the rest quite a bit lower - chuck in some wages, oncosts etc and it's like a quarter of a billion squid without writing a memo. This is assuming that the EU commission have bases in every country - and if not why not, and if so, why so?
If we're moving toward electronic capacity management - why spend all this on admin? Sir Humphrey was an amateur.
Chris Paul, what a prize dick you have made of yourself. Again. How on earth is this an old story. The tender document was issued on 16 February. Er, that's today. Would you like to apologise? Seems to be a growing trend on Labour blogs today.
ReplyDeleteYak 40,
ReplyDeleteMerkal spent her youth in the East German 'party apparatus' she was a big wheel in the agitprop dept of the youth wing of the communist party I believe, a typical greasy pole climbing commie turd who got on like a house on fire with the stasi, she is a typical grey political animal, principles? Naaah, every way the wind blows, these greasy pole climbing commissars are comfortable in any party that has power, its not principle with these people its power!
An ex commie thin lipped grey cog now a conservative? yeah right!
These eurotrash commissars would sell their grannies and pretend to be jehovas witnesses if it would further their ambitions.
I didn't know simon was a closet communist,or are dictatorships his thing?
ReplyDeleteWonderful. I’ve now been accused of being a Tory mole, a Labourite [sic], a Lib Dem and now a Communist. Only the BNP to go apparrently...
ReplyDeleteGolly gosh-how times change!
